Does anyone know a cheap decent radiator upgrade, I don't mind a bit of cutting and welding

According to the Zone Wiki: "The standard 325i radiator will be fine as long as it’s in perfect (i.e as new) condition."

An M20 aircon rad is slightly larger (taller) than the non aircon rad, and is a direct replacement for the standard rad. Buy an aircon front valance for the extra slot or just cut a slot above the oil cooler cut out in your valance to allow airflow to the bottom of the aircon rad.
As above, a standard, good condition rad should be fine, but an aircon rad is an option.

You could also search for an e30 324td radiator. Its also larger and fits perfect. Never had temp problems with it.
