hi all,

ive heard that you can replace the intake and throttle body in the 320i with a 325i throttle body and intake, is this true and are there any improvements that would make it worthwhile? Im just not sure because arent the pipe diameters different? Any advice would be appreciated :) im still new to the m20 engine XD

hey maujo - it can be done and the only really modifications needed is to slightly port out the cylinder head so that it matches the new gasket and the intake manifold. I'm pretty sure i used a 320i intake gasket and just ported the manifold but it probably best to get a 325 one (turbo engine)

The pipes are wider which will benefit the top end performance of the engine but reduce the bottom not great for a 320i as their bit gutless down low. Not sure about length but there can't be a lot in it

Like you say it has been done, so i would do some more searches to see the real world benefits but id say unless your engines been modified, 6 branch chip etc it won't improve it as a daily drive but for a track weekend car maybe more beneficial

In know in NZ bmw's are abit thin on the ground but most people would say put the whole 325i engine in !

heres a guide - http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... conversion

If you're new to M20s, there's one simple piece of advice; don't spend a single penny trying to improve the 2.0 M20 - you can't make any improvements that you would actually feel from the driver's seat, other than pulling the engine out and putting a 2.5 in there.

As jimmy said, the throttle body conversion is only worthwhile in line with a MAF, a six-branch and a chip, and even then you're only looking at a 5-10hp gain, for the same price as a full 2.5 conversion which yields +40hp.

I've been looking at getting a full 325 conversion since not long after i had the car, its just finding a b25 engine that's in reasonable condition and within the country XD ... secondhand b25 engines are hard to find that haven't been thrashed too much here... either that or I'm not looking in the right places yet XD ... I'm still looking, got some help sorted out from a mate that can help me do the conversion and a source for all the other parts such as replacement seals and things, its just the base from which to start from that i need to sort out but yeah hopefully in the near future, because don't get me wrong i love my 2.0 its only a bit thirsty for the power it gives... do have to say though, it has improved heaps since i chipped it with one of Maurices chips :)

But yeah, thanks for the advice :thumb:
