I've recently purchased a 1984 320i baur with amazing 129Bhp. It's a nice car and a beauty to driver, but I intend to restore it and take it out on a nice day with a roof down, then I would like to drive something with a bit of power...
I was thinking about buying a 1990s 325 and sticking an engine from that one, as they seem to be going pretty cheap...
Or
Is there a way of upgrading this one? A head from diferent engine, etc?
I'm sure it has been asked before...
upgrade of 320i 129 bph to something with more power.

You can pick up and engine, box and ancillaries package for about £300 on here. Someone on here will probably fit it for you for about the same money if you're lucky. Whilst the engine and gearbox are in bits, its worth giving it a full service, clutch, timing belt, water pump etc if there's no documented history with the engine, that's another pile of cash - that's another £300 all day long.
Almost forgot, you'll need suspension for a 325i also, unless it's a cab or touring. That's shocks, springs, anti-roll bars, struts (?), then there's the brakes and the diff.
Expensive business.
Just sell it and buy a 325i or buy a whole donor car with a rotten body cheaply.

why, because the engineers who designed the car did a load of work to ensure that the suspension and brakes were appropriate to the additional power, additional weight at the front end and dynamics of the handling.chu346 wrote:Why?Topblag wrote:Almost forgot, you'll need suspension for a 325i also, unless it's a cab or touring.
