i have a high comp m20 lump in my tourer and want to try get a little more power from her.
a friend and fellow zoner (driftnething) is going to be doing a stroker conversion for me when i can get the engine out and over to him so i wanted some advice from you all as to what would be worth getting for the build or adding to to optimize my preformance for as little pennies as possible!! although i will spend money where it is needed.
does any one know exactly what is needed for a maf conversion?? i work at a breakers yard so getting bits from different cars is quite easy but we dont get many e30's in!!
any sugestions on enhancing preformance or response is appreceated.
dan.
best mods for my m20??

full service, all filters, fluids, plugs, leads & if need be new dizzy & rotor arm.
if budget allows then port, polish & gas flow the head to complement the new cam,
6 branch manifold, full stainless steel exhaust, X-pipe on the end of the down pipe's, cold air fed induction set up, & if possible either a 2.7 or 2.8 stroker conversion & finally a RR remap to set it all up & working as it should.
but it all comes down to budget & personal choice.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

Get a decent chip in the ECU to bring out the best from it.
You can fit a Miller MAF, which uses a Ford Mustang MAF unit, together with a chip change to the ECU.

I can supply a similar chip. A MAF gives a very nice smooth throttle response, though won't necessarily give much extra power.

That sounds good, 200bhp should theoretically be achievable with a BTB2 manifold then going on Barry's 17bhp increase on a standard low comp M20B25.hongkongfuey wrote:how many horses are you going for??? im running a hi comp 325, with cam, chip, bbtb, m30 afm , m30 injectors. im running at 192bhp 189ft/lbs
Is the M30 AFM a straight swap and is the chip a pre-programmed one or a remap to suite the mods?

Dmcl on the zone mapped the chip with the m30 mods in mind, let him know what u want, he can do just arm, or just injectors, both , mild wild etc
At the mo i have hottuning 6 branch, with no x pipe, so brb might help? But for an extra £600 ???

if you don't mind me asking how much did dmcl charge for the chip? Been thinking about the M30 AFM & injector mod.hongkongfuey wrote:Dmcl on the zone mapped the chip with the m30 mods in mind, let him know what u want, he can do just arm, or just injectors, both , mild wild etc

Does your headers run into a single or split system? If a single pipe then you do not need a X-pipe but if you have twin pipes then get one. It basically scavengers the exhaust gas from the other header, leaving it under a partial vacuum. This then improves gas flow out of the cylinder on the exhaust cycle.hongkongfuey wrote:
