Hi folks,
I have a friends engine from a prefacelift 325i which has possibly been fettled to a 2.7 by a previous owner. How would i be able to tell if this has been done? and would it slot straight in my facelift model?

Thanks in advance for any advice! :D

As far as I know the only reliable way to tell is to somehow measure the stroke, the 2.5 has a stroke of 75mm, a 2.7 will be 81mm. I've never done it myself but I believe there are ways that involve taking a spark plug out and lowering a piece of wire or string into the chamber to measure the length at the top and at the bottom of the stroke. Try doing a search it might reveal more info.

Cheers clarko, i will be doing a rebuild on it soon. A bit of a project really, so i'm sure i'm gonna learn plenty about it soon enough.

My mate is doing a m30 conversion, and i've been helping him with that, i've always loved cars and since i bought my bm i have learnt so much about maintainence in a short space of time!
