Thinking about modifying the engine on my 89 325 I sport auto, what's the best recommendation don't want to go mad in costs

You could fit a BBTB, gnarly cam, good 6 branch exhaust manifold, lightened flywheel, chip the ecu. I've not done any of these so can't comment on what gains they'd give but I don't think it would be huge.

this, also combined with a 2.7/2.8 stroker.

all depends how deep your pockets are & how far you want to take it.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

Swap to a manual will probably be the best pound for your.. pound.

Before any modifications check how far are You from stock 170/171 hp.
