What engine do I have ? I have, over the last three months been to a certain ”aEuropean Car Part”a supplier for some routine service bits. I bought a panel air filter and six spark plugs. The panel filter was the wrong one so another 20 mile return journey taking the old filter with me . Changed no problem. I stupidly should have checked the plugs as yes you guessed right they were wrong. To be fare they did come out and bring me the correct ones after I gave them the part number from the NGK website over the phone. I have now bought some oil an oil filter and a new copper washer from them and apart from the oil, the filter is the wrong one and the copper washer, well not looked yet !. So another round journey of 20 miles.
Now this has had me wondering, either their database is wrong or I have the wrong engine in mine. I believe mine to be a 2.0 ltr M20 six pot. The log book and engine number on the block match as does the chassis number. You guru’s out there with data base access, can you tell me what engine I have please .

Does the build date of your car overlap the introduction of the E36? If so, that's the problem, so, for the purposes of ordering from these idiots, change the build date to one that can only be an E30.
I think you are right Brian. The ”acomputer says no”a lad was about 17, but the older gent, let’s say late 40’s early 50’s who was probably more experienced said, it looks like your car was built in 88 , but registered in 89. I have come across this before, he even said I know what filter you want regardless of what the computer says and went and got me it ! Came home and it looks spot on. I will have a look tomorrow.
