could an m20 be converted from belt to duplex chain drive?

not really thinking about actually doing it, but have been toying with the idea just for funsies.

i think it should be possible, using an m50 crank pully, a shortened m50 chain and tensioner, some kind of modified cam pully and scratch building a chain box.

Biggest issue would be creating a tensioning system and a lubrication system..

Was Alex/Turbo-Brown not looking in to chain driven m20 for his twin turbo build? It may have been just the dry sump oil pump drive but may be worth a read.

Sufficient lubrication could probably be provided by removing the crank and camshaft (edit added) oil seals, seems like an interesting prroject!

Can anyone suggest how to test if the boot lights are staying on with the boot shut?

^^^ thats what i was thinking, no front main and have it in the stock m50 position. (hence the need for the 2.8 oil spacer)

im not really thinking of doing it, but i might mock it up just to see.

what about a change in the rocker spray bar setup? make a longer spray bar and run it out over the chain/cam sprocket with an additional spray hole.

You need a pressurised oil feed to the tensioner.

thats easy, external take of from a t-piece on the main oil gallery, like you would with a turbo feed.
