2.7 needs mapping - recomendations pls
Moderator: martauto
Hiya
So i started up my 2.7 over the weekend after a long long time - started first time! Great!!
The reason im not using it though, it the mapping has never been correct - it has never managed to idle properly. I had it mapped by ShepEVO a couple of years back, but as it was on the dyno, it was always hot and idled as it should. When the winter months came in - it was horrible to drive, so i parked it up where its been there since!
This is on a unichip maf conversion BTW - I was told that this is because the unichip doesnt have any means of knowing when the engine is cold so doesnt put enough fuel in or something!
Anyways - as time went on, and my car just sat there a mate of mine suggested i go back to AFM - at least the Motronic ecu could allow for different temps - So the question arises - who do you just suggest i go for, and do i stick with MAF, go afm or is there something else out on the market?? The catch is, my budget is around £300!!!

Oh - spec of the engine:
*M20B20 engine bored out as required so as new hones (i think thats what its called!)
*320i Conrods
*525e reground crank with new shells
*Brand new 325i pistons and rings with skirts shaved
*ported & polished head
*Shrick 272/282 cam
*M30 Injectors
*FSE fuel pressure regulator
*BTB2 Manifold welded to new genuine BMW centre section welded to rear Remus Box
*Big bore throttle body
and prob other bits i missed!
Oh, and will I lose much BHP, or can i gain some?

I can supply a 2.7-specific chip if you require one, for £35 posted.

How about a Millar WAR chip? Uses standard Motronic, but programmable via laptop.

Cool - what engine do you have and what did you get out of it?
was it road mapped or on the rollers?

it is possible to map the standard ECU to work with a MAF..

Be careful of letting anyone burn a chip for you mate... My brand new motor was buggered because the chip that someone sold me...
Had to rebuild it after only 4 weeks as it suffered bore wash because was given way to much fuel in a attempt to make it faster..
I had my second motor tuned by Ant at A-tech and would recommend him...
As Daimlerman said Gunni is a absolute tuning god and you should talk to him to.

Gunni rolling road mapped my car and it a 2.7i
spec;
200000 mile eta bottom end
885 head with stock cam 160000 miles
325i inlet manifold
325i TB
Motronic 1.3 with Gunni's Chip
325i exhaust manifold
325i down pipes to E28 525i down pipes and a Frtiz exhaust.
This is all in an E28.
Power 175 hp @ 5900 rpm. The rolling road shows 157.5 hp but knowing the mass of the car, frontal area, drag coeffiecent and an estimate of rolling friction I computed the acceleration of the car based on the 157.5 hp curve and it is much slower than what I measure in reality. A power hike of 11% to 175 hp brings the calculated acceleration into line with what is measured. So power is 175 hp.
Rolling roads are useful for a before and after comparision, they so not to be taken a gospel truth.
Previous RR runs with the stock E28 eta exhaust showed around 160 hp on one of A-tech chips, that worked well too.

Gunni certainly knows his stuff,my car runs better after he waved his magic wand over it!
