surely the better & quicker way there would be M4 through Swindon, Oxford, head towards Milton Keynes then up on the M1?
I can't imagine M5, M6, conventry, then head South being the best route

Gordano Services, Bristol (M5, J19), around 7am-ish was my plan - so that kinda works out well 
Have to warn you though; My geography is a pile of a steaming proverbial, but I have been recommended this route by a bike courier - I'll rely on technology to do the fine details.
I've actually just done some research. It's a 50 miles shorter route, (not going the route-planner way) but takes 10 minutes more - I'm sure we can change that on the A-road twisties (in a highly legal manner of course).
