Anyway,i'm thinking of a meet which involves as little tarmac as possible, and as far as possible, all Byways
I've done more offroading in standard cars than I care to remember,I therefore know what is possible to achieve in terms of offroading in them.
You would be very surprised as to where you can get a car to go if the will is strong enough!
Only last week saw me,the missus and little man driving down some fine green lanes in my R5,and what fun was had, except the missus getting worried from time to time!
The drive would take place on legitimate Byways where we are within our rights to go,so there will be no worries of being hassled by Plod/land wardens etc.
Certain criteria would need to adhered to though for, just to be partially sensible.......
The most important thing would be to have some kind of break down cover if the worst happened such as knacked engine.I have NEVER broken down or seriously damaged any of my cars off road in 15 years,i've never had a puncture and have never needed rescuing, again, this is down to being sensible about what you tackle and taking your time negotiating the many obstacles, ruts, puddles etc.
Secondly, bring lots of tools,WD40,rope etc should it be needed.
Thirdly, sensible clothes is a good idea in the case of getting stuck, which can happen! Dragging a car out of bog of mud in your Hilfrigger jeans,D & G t-shirt and Armani shoes isn't going to be any fun,old but warm cloths and wellingtons or some kind of decent footwear is much better. The growing of a beard for the occasion is optional.
I wouldn't be having pub stop as in the middle of nowhere it's difficult to organize and the last thing you want to be doing is rushing down a lane trying to catch a pub before it closes, this is a recipe for disaster. Bringing
your own lunch and drinks would be a good idea, unless you want to stay hungry of course.
Lastly, choice of vehicle.........I couldn't careless, bring whatever you want, just bring a car that your not afraid to put the odd scratch on and not afraid of giving it some stick when needed! Turning up in a mint Tech1 Sport probably wouldn't be wise!
This is important,as I have said,I've never done a serious damage to any of my cars in my pursuit of non 4x4 green laneing I therefore suggest you thinking carefully as to whether this is for you as I can't take responsibility if you do damage your car as a result of this meet,it's unlikely you will, but i've got to say it anyway.
Lastly, for this meet there will be limit on the cars that can take part to 6,including me,so that's 5 place's left, there is of course no limit on the people you wish to cram into your car,the more the merrier! The limit is simply because anymore than half a dozen cars is going to be tricky if for instance we go down a track to find it blocked and all have to reverse back up it!
This sounds like a lot of waffle, and trust me it really isn't a complicated affair, simply turn up,drive down rough, muddy, wet & bumpy tracks and go home, simple, but daaaaaaaamn good fun
I'm thinking early January for this jaunt,so who would be interested?
