Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances I had to end the dyno day early.

Thanks to all those who turned up this morning it was great to see you all again, but a phone call I got during this morning soon had my mind elsewhere and I have to dash upto Cheltnham hospital.

Sorry to the guys who turned up after I left, but I am sure you understand why I had to go and I will be happy to hold another day just for the ones who turned up after I left. Please list your interest below.

Good to see you this morning. Thanks for dynoing my sport. 175.9bhp was pretty good. winkeye

Sorry you had to go early. Hope all turns out OK.

I'd love to see what my 911 is coming in at. Let me know if you have another day soon.

Cheers
Mike

Thanks Paul once again. Hope all is ok this afternoon/evening, safe journey back.

As always a top day out, Quarry proved to get better as the day went on. A chap in an e36 kissed the barrior rather heavily s! He understeered and was a passeneger until he clonked the wall at about 30? It goes to show, 318is do understeer despite what the masses with them think.

Thanks guys for your best wishes. My best mates mum was admitted to hospital just over a week ago with something I can't even pronounce.. but either way she was getting better and was set to come back home last Friday but she took a turn for the worst and had to stay in. The hospital called the family yesturday and was when I got the call that we should get to the hospital as soon as we could. Hence why I couldn't hang around for anyone else to turn up - sorry! She passed away in the early hours of this morning and although she wasn't my mum, she did consider me as her second son so it has been pretty upsetting for me too. She had been pretty ill but in very good spirits for a long while and being honest it wasn't a big suprise for me that she passed this morning.

As I had to leave and a few of you turned up after I left, I felt I had to explain what it was all about and I also wanted to thank you for your understanding.

If those of you who turned up after I left want to have a run on the dyno I would be more than happy to either arrange another dyno day or you are welcome to come to the next one we have with another club? I know its not the same for you guys, but its the best I can do right now.

On a brighter note I was pleased to meet some new faces and to catch up a little with a couple of old faces. Simon Batts 318is impressed me as we had been talking quite a bit behind the scenes about his 1.9ltr E36 bottom end and its viability. The dyno doesn't lie and it shows that it is a worthy conversion with over 160bhp and around 150ftlbs from a not so well mapped megasquirt :)

Borisritter's Tech1 Sport also confirmed the early M20B25 engines are the best pushing out 176bhp. I wish I could have hung around to test the 911.

Jon's 205Mi16 was pretty much spot on but needed a little tweak with around 165bhp (not bad for an old 205  ) and his brothers UK Impreza turned out 235bhp with a nice safe fuel map and boost profile atleast.

Paul, I'm sorry for your loss. Thoughts are with you and her family, I am glad you and her family made it there in time. If we had missed you, I wouldn't have minded one bit given the circumstances, I'm sure the other zoners thought the same. I hope we didn't hold you up :(

Really pleased with both the cars. It was mildly nerve racking have 2 cars run not just 1. Next step with the mi16 is to change the cambelt and chip it raising the rev limit slightly. I'll post the graph when I get back to my home computer. After that, it starts getting expensive to get power out of it. 200bhp would be ideal in it though. Thanks for the tweaking as well. Nice to know that its not going slightly lean anymore. :thumb:

Matt wants to change the belt on his as well, then look at making an electronic boost controller(he is an electronic engineer and might actually get pleasure out of doing it. Sick.) to control the boost and keep it boosting better to the redline. Perhaps compare it to other UK imprezas and see if they all richen up considerably past 5000rpm.

Hi Paul,

I made it up there in the end. Brought the 318i engine damper/pulley too but completely forgot to bring it round (seeing as i got to combe at 2pm).
But looks like a would of missed you anyway. Truely sorry to hear of your loss. Best wishes to you and the family at this time.

Might pop it up in the week if your about?

Hi Paul,

Really sorry to hear about your and your friends loss, my thoughts are with you and her family.

Many thanks for running my car on Saturday, I think the Megasquirt proved a remap is worth a bit, and I'm sure you can do quite a lot better with a UniQ than I have done with my rough map which I've spent very little time on!

Nearly saved up for a UniQ now anyway so hope to be back shortly to get it sorted. In the long term I'm planning to change the cams and do a little head work to aim for 170bhp :D

Cheers, Simon

Hi James, I did call your place after I asked for the front crank pulley... as the circuit had sourced one just after they asked me to call you  But thanks anyway. You can bring your car up anytime buddy! :D

Simon, I didn't think there was much more to come from your 318is at peak, but certainly some smoothing out would be good. I thought I detected a little pinking around 5500-6000 RPM with the Megasquirt, so definately needs a little sorting. Did you deck the head or block before assembling or just fit e30 head to e36 bottom end?

It wasn't skimmed, just assembled as is. I have been thinking about skimming the head to get the compression up a bit though, 10.8:1 or something maybe. Also I was going to have a look at the ports and see if there are any sharp edges around the valve seats that could be smoothed out, I think the fact it makes max power at 6500rpm though means I dont need to make the ports any bigger though.

I agree the main advantages of getting it mapped by yourself is the smoothness, but also there are some areas in my map at lower revs where I think it could be improved, and certainly part load aswell.
