The Le Mans 24 Hour - 16/17 June 2007
Moderator: martauto
No worries dude, I'll have to be sober though! And I don't want it to break again!
But yeah, no probs!
It's a bit too soon for me now, could do with another week of preparation!
But all the same, I can't wait!

I know! I'm sh***ing myself about that, especially after breaking down on saturday!1an wrote: lets jsut hope it gets down there and back

I just wrote down all of my mechanical failures and divided the mileage since the car was on the road by the number of those. It works out that statistically I WILL break down somewhere in France!

I dont really use my car during the week (train to work) so not really a problem having it packed for a few days and it gets the stuff out of my house. Took a while as I am taking a lot of gear and still wanted to see out the rear window so rear seats are down and everything below window height.Ziggy wrote:Blimey - packing already?!
I also have an Argos gazebo that i took to Pistonfest, they are straight forward to put up and will be good for Le Mans but really need sides if its raining or windy, my dad has one that he does not use (one I took to Santa Pod last year) I might see if I can buy that off him.

Haha i got 15 kids to get some bling jewellery innit.
Naa not packed, at the misses house. I have a lot to pack on wed. A fairly big tent, airbed, duvet cover, generator, fridge
, clothes, chairs and a table.
I work on a JIT system. I could do with changing a shock, but I think i might go without. Bounce bounce.

You'll almost certainly be able to change money on the ferry... no commission at the post office though.
You've got it easy - I've got to fix the car first
Jon - go for the freezer or not?

I'll try and get the money sorted before then, no idea how much will be needed!
Whats up with your car then?
Not liking the weather forcast one bit!

Yes jon lets go for it. You bid and if i don't see you bidding then i'll do it in the last 2 mins. £40?
Just changed my oil, bits of engine fillings in the old oil
Ahh well it'll be ok, i'll just cruise i think.
Shock isn't going to get changed, so i'll bring the spare. I think we should attempt to change it F1 style at le mans. I'll hold the fire extinguisher just in case.

Hokay... should be around, but keep an eye - I'll post here just before it finishes - won't bid 'til about 10 secs to go!Jon_Bmw wrote:Yes jon lets go for it. You bid and if i don't see you bidding then i'll do it in the last 2 mins. £40?

I've already got a trolley jack, socket set & big **** off breaker bar - shock change'll be eaaasy - what could possibly go wrong?!

You're welcome to try and change it. I'll hold the fire extinguisher, just in case. Wanna be useful. I am nackered, i keep trying to get myself up at silly early times in the morning(9am) to try and prepare.

Fridge it is then, £60 at the moment.
Hope the fridge will do us proud
Are you still bringing your leccy cool box? We can swap that into mine in winchester. In theory the fridge I have could actually be used in my car on the journey as i have an invertor. What do you think, r134a fridge + moving car + turned on = disaster?

B***er. Fridge'll do though - uses less power too I'm sure. Yeah I'll be taking my mini-fridge assuming I don't end up with another passenger (the one who wussed out is regretting it) - 12v so I can use it wherever... I've got a car battery charger too = ready made 240v->12v converter for running 12v things off your gene!
I'm really not feeling your using the fridge on the way idea... I'm not rating the chances of my exhaust staying on the car, so I'd rather you were about to help (/hold the fire extinguisher), rather than me having to help when you've gassed yourself & crashed. Just stick some ice-packs in it to keep it cool for the way down.
I'll take some (frozen!) milk - you got bacon?
Oh, & I've got a tow rope, & loads of other tools etc, but no jump-leads. Anyone got some? I'd also rather not have to take my trolley jack if someone else has got anything better than the factory POS?!

Jesus we'll have more tools than most garages i think, I'll leave my trolley jack then if someone else is taking one, got jump leads though. Will take some crimpers as well and hatever connectors i have just in case anyone has any leccy troubles!

I'm hoping someone else has a decent jack too - mine's $hit & my boot's small! Got spare fuel pumps (pre & post facelift!), HT leads, M20 dizzy cap... Good call on the leccy bits. I'll sling a soldering iron in too.Kedge wrote:Jesus we'll have more tools than most garages i think, I'll leave my trolley jack then if someone else is taking one, got jump leads though. & yet I still feel the need for breakdown cover?! Anyone chancing it?

Motherfucker, i just wrote a fairly lengthy(for me) reply and the c**ting t'internet broke it.
Here goes again:
The misses dragged me round asda this morning at 9.30am
We have got 24 bits of bacon, sausages, burgers, Milk. All are being frozen as i write this. Got lots of other crap as well as we are staying for a week. The fridge is a bad idea, i'm sure there is someone brave/stupid enough to do it. Not me squire. I've got a solid cool box that it will all be placed in with ice packs and some block Ice that i brought. I also brought some water as french stuff aint to clever.
I have a fire extinguisher too, hopefully won't be needing it
I shall bring some Jump leads, so don't worry about that. As for a trolley jack, i don't think i will bring one - Audi supply a decent enough jack to change a wheel, anything above and beyond that the RAC can fix.
Your exhaust - DUCT TAPE innit bruv.
