Hello all.

One of our number has kindly put a bit of info on our Le Mans tour on a wee website.

You can find it at www.onlymotorsport.co.uk and we'll be keeping all the convoy information there too. There are over 20 cars on the 0800 thursday crossing!! That's going to be awesome!

There are a few good tunnels on the way down, just so long as you`re using the N138, don`t use the new motorway, we used it last year, it was so boring and there are no tunnels from memory.

THere are two tunnels on the way down on the A28 IIRC.

Road angels and snoopers are VERY seriously frowned upon in the land of the frog so don't use them! The gendarmes will fine you and confiscate the kit so not worth the risk IMHO. You shouldn't need sat nav. The route is pretty easy and I will be providing directions closer the time.

It's also worth noting that rumour has it that the gendarmes are drafting in loads of extra plod to catch us brits speeding so do so at your peril. When I got done last year I was told that you are banned if you are doing over 172KMH. I got done at 182KMH was banned instantly (france only) and fined ┚¬130 on the spot. The fella pulled with me in his R32 was banned as well but was doing 220kmh and was fined ┚¬750

Don't take my word on the 172. It was just what the plod told me but assuming the weather is dry and fine, the limit is 130 so stick to that and take it steady and you'll save your wallet a hammering.

Also - as of this year. Anyone caught doing really silly speeds will have their car confiscated as well. Imagine that ball-ache. You can speed all over France most of the year but Le Mans weekend is a definate exception!

Sensible choice Mahmood

FYI everyone. As is typical of these things. As soon as you start asking for money the men get separated from the boys. All over a poxy £100 too. You should hear the excuses. Work commitments this, blah blah that. It's effing three months away. Plenty of time to sort the diary!!

Anyway - we've had 10 drops outs so far and the waiting list has taken care of 4. I reckon there are another 2 still to be taken hopefully by my old man and his mate in their rally prepped Austin Healeys. But if the three other drops outs I am suspicious of do, we'll have 9 places to sell.

So get recruiting people. We need to get the numbers back up!!!

Cheers

I'm really excited, how sad :D

I have just added one other to my booking. That means three of us and highly unlikely that I will be taking the cab.

We're now on the look-out for a nice rental or a cheap luxury barge for this trip.

Guy: cheque in the post.

That is brave! :D

Lovely car though, Is that a V8 one?, I passengered in a V8 one of those once and I loved it. I do get quite aroused by TVRs!

Nice to feel there would be support from fellow LeMans goers if things go wrong, I'll be packing plenty of spare parts and will also donate them without hesitation to someone in need if I can help.

Judging by the website, there should be some tasty cars on the same crossing as most of us too!

Martin.

No 2.8i V6 S1, only hit 120mph on some A roads on the way down there  will be taking it easy due to speed traps etc this year

I've had several Fords with the 2.8 Cologne engine, they do make a gorgeous noise, should still make a small sports car move ok! ? winkeye

I sometimes miss my old Capri 2.8i.

I'll be taking it easy as well, can barely afford to go anyway, never mind speeding fines! :?

Thats why you need a co pilot, the guy I took didn't realise how quick even a V6 could be. Its a pain overtaking in in France as your the wrong side of the car, so you need to nudge out and ask "is it clear" he would say "well maybe" and the clog would go down and overtaking done safe and cleanly. After one spirited drive down some french A roads he walked round the car and shook my hand as I got got out :o:. He bought a Chrimera within 3 weeks after getting back, I would like to think that I had a small part in that decision.

Speeding in France on Le Mans weekend is not recommended, heavy fines an instant bans

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... 1&f=25&h=0

Lots of track days around these days to rag a car, I just what to get there and back in one piece with no fines

Me too!

I can hardly afford to go in the first place, without speeding fines! :?

And I need to keep my car in one piece, which if recent events are anything to go by could be quite a mission in itself! 8O

At least if we go slow we get to see all the flash cars go speeding past us! :D
