I dunno!

Was ok when I drove it around on saturday. Including leaving it a few hours then starting it again a couple of times.

Didn't use it sunday..

This morning and tonight it just wouldn't quite fire up! :(

I'm going to do some checks on it tomorrow, including a compression test in case it's valve or head gasket trouble, but I bet it is something silly! :?

Good point, Ant told me about that too.

But voltage was good yesterday, and it's a monster battery which can crank my engine for hours! :)

Be good to see you again too.

damn martin, your car doesn't like you does it!!!!
low voltage... hmm... earth straps ok? High resistance connection to battery?
wipe your battery out and get a proper charge on it before you start again. maybe pull the plugs to relieve some of the puddles of petrol you've probably got in there now :D

I don't think it does! :?

Especially after I kicked it in the face yesterday! :x

The battery is quite new and is 65Ah / 720A, so quite big!
It can do some cranking!

I have had it on charge all evening though.

Good idea with the plugs / petrol!
I'll do a compression test while I'm at it.

It seems quite likely from another thread that I've been chatting on that I might have flooded it.

I'll have a go next couple of evenings. :)

i managed to flood my M30 a while ago, outside my work at lunchtime.
it was pissing it down so i took advantage of my AA membership, called the main in the yellow van to sort it for me :D soo lazy i know but i was in my shirt etc and had a lot of work to do that day.

thinking about it, i bet that's when number 6 spark plug hole got 'mysteriously' fecked :?

Be careful what you wish for, it might come true! :?

Then you'd have a pile of motionless scrap outside of your house instead of me! :D

I guess it would get Steve off your case though! :chuckle:

I think you over estimate how much I drive my e30 anyway! Besides which, it would be an motionless pile of scrap with a fuckoff huge engine under the bonnet and a 316 badge to goad the saxo brigade!

Aaah, were you giving it some throttle while cranking as well then?

I wonder if the AA would deliver, er, I mean recover my car to a rolling road.... ? winkeye

you should get yourself a nice reliable car then... could you face driving a rover 214? winkeye if that's not an incentive to get the BMW sorted, i don't know what is :D

My dad used to have a rover 414 and it was surprising an extremely reliable car - The only[/] reason we got rid of it was to make room for the Merc 500SE!

Rover or Mercedes... decisions incisions!

my L plate rover 414 was very very reliable actually, in fact despite deliberately crashing it into anything in my path it would never die... until the original cambelt failed at 140k, at idle. :D strange as it spent most of it's life at about a billion RPM on the limiter!

the replacement rover (a J plate 214) was also extremely reliable and once tripped and painted matt black, managed a trip to the 'ring with no problems whatsoever. it was caned utterly mercilessly too!

as a cheap runabout turd, i'd have another. but that's possible because i like driving worthless cars into inanimate objects too much... and i like the BMW

martin, if you buy a rover, the bmw may get jealous and fix itself. mine did that a few times :D :D

One thing with a few of the Honda engined rovers is the constant eating of head gaskets. 8O

that's the rover K series but in 1400cc flavour, they're generally ok. it's the larger capacity ones that cause problems.

A P-reg Rover 416SLi (K-series) has somehow survived my mum's driving too for a few years without major mishap 8O Though the local Rover main dealer ripped her off for its last MOT, even though I did the hard work to MIG-weld its rusty sill :(
