Thanks guys!

It's going ok, not enough hours in the day though.

Mainly got to sort out the broken rear caliper bolt, get some pipe reducers to plumb in the intercoolers and turn the boost up!

Hope to get a few miles on the new EBC Redstuff pads before the event too!

I'll keep it updated, and there will be plenty of pics from the event, if the car gets us there! :?

for the caliper, try loosening the brake pipe on top (unless that's siezed!) and using a slow and laborious process of loosening, pushing out fluid, tightening... etc bleed though there. then loosen again and push the piston back in to bleed out the caliper.

the caliper may need to be unbolted and rotated so the brake pipe is at the top.

it's a bodge but has worked before on pug rear calipers as the bleed nipples on these are made of marzipan!

It's nowt to do with all that though! :teehee:

It's a caliper to hub mounting bolt that broke almost flush with the hub!
We've drilled it, just got to get a thread back in there!

We can't wait to hear it properly too!

This bolt is actually one of very few that have broken on us.

Replacing the bolt wasn't a problem - identical to an E30 one! :D

Yes, we made it back! :)

Nearly didn't make it there, bottom radiator hose split on the M1.
A peice of BMW M30 top hose got it going again, and some water from the RAC!

The event was great fun!
I'll post up pics when I can but my pc is not online at the moment - thanks a bunch AOL! :x

The winner was a Nissan Pulsar but we were quite pleased with our quarter mile time of 15.6 seconds.

I can't wait for the magazine article! :D 8)

Yes! :D

We were experimenting with boost pressure, too much and a sensor was cutting it out or it wasn't fuelling enough, we ran about 8psi without trouble. Probably not doing it any good though!

I was surprised the clutch didn't give any hint of complaint, even after a dozen or so launches in not a long time.

The handling was quite a surprise on the slalom, very predictable and easy to drive on it's (fairly low) limit, changed direction nicely but not as fast as most of the hatchbacks.
The limited slip diff wasn't working so it was spinning the inside wheel out of the corners.

It was a lot of fun, and the guys at PPC Magazine are a good laugh and really friendly. The other competitors were cool too.

No mk2 Golf turbo, a few of the cars were a little suspicious of being within budget but I wasn't that bothered either way.

There was a very shabby and cheap looking kit car with an Alfa Romeo V6 engine, it looked great fun and sounded good too but it broke a half shaft quite early in the day. :(

There was a very tatty and standard looking mk2 Fiesta XR2, rust and all, but with a 2-litre Zetec engine. That was very quick!

I'm not sure, I smoked around in it yesterday showing my mates but it's now a burden that I want rid of! :)

I might tart up a few things and sell it on or break it for spares, not sure yet. :?

E30Beemerlad - I was talking to the guys at PPC and they are very keen to hold a similar event next year, so keep an eye on the magazine! winkeye

I'd guess the insurance is exorbitant, but what sort of figure would you be looking for to sell the car?

I insured it with a classic car policy - limited to 1500 miles a year, locked in garage over night and paid £199! :)
Insurance varies wildly though, it seems quite random sometimes.
Most companies wouldn't touch it or wanted a stupid amount.

I'm not sure what it's worth really, it's got M.O.T. until February, although it will need some welding to get through another one.

I doubt I'll get back the £850 ish pounds it's cost, but hey ho!

Right then, I don't know if this bit should be in 'Meets, Events and Shows Pictures' as it's not E30 related so I'll stick with this thread, but here's the last few pics of the car and some of the event.

Intercoolers fitted - thursday night at 10pm, plenty of time to spare! 8O

Thought not!

The event -

Kit car...

With Alfa Romeo V6!
Sadly the diff broke early in the day.

Image

Rover Metro - with 1.8 VVC engine... very quick!

Stripped Saxo with nitrous oxide, sadly not running properly at all.

Not competing - obviously, but very nice!

I won't give away the results, it can be a surprise (or no surprise to be honest) when the magazine comes out - hopefully in about six weeks.

Yeah, there was some banter about a few of the cars' value, I wasn't really bothered myself it was just a bit of fun
The only way some of them could have been done is if it was bought as a wreck and just needed time and skilled (welding, painting, engine fixing etc.) labour at home to put right.
Some were clearly worth more.

But I'd gladly let the Maserati go for £1000! :D
