the arch ..... ive ordered a repair panel but it's not arrived yet "it's only been 4 week's!"

Im in Kirkcaldy, ive got a not bad selection of tools and hammers/various prybars and a mig, ive also got a dry lock up with a calor gas heater if anyone needs things doing in this weather ?? my cars stored in there too so it would have to be evenings or weekends but i usually have time. ive got experience in most things mechanical on E30 apart from stripping engine/gearbox and ive replaced a few panels and scuttles in my time too
you ever done a rear qtr ?riklusby wrote:Im in Kirkcaldy, ive got a not bad selection of tools and hammers/various prybars and a mig, ive also got a dry lock up with a calor gas heater if anyone needs things doing in this weather ?? my cars stored in there too so it would have to be evenings or weekends but i usually have time. ive got experience in most things mechanical on E30 apart from stripping engine/gearbox and ive replaced a few panels and scuttles in my time too
any good at welding an inner rear arch mate as mine is a bit non exsistant lol, riklusby wrote:Havnt done a whole one but done various rear arches on 4 doors, sills, scuttles etc, cant be much more difficult i wouldnt think ??
i could do with gettin ma bodykit stripped off to asses the rust, also need to get it running better. so if you up for it at some point it would be appreciated.
will need you to have a look at somepoint and see what you think bud.riklusby wrote:Havnt done a whole one but done various rear arches on 4 doors, sills, scuttles etc, cant be much more difficult i wouldnt think ??

you would need to strip that back to see where the rust stops and the decent metel starts to get an idea of how much welding is involved in it but it is easily done though if a bit time consuming.320iAN wrote:.. i don't mind pitching in when i can, like other's ive only got limited skill's but i'm willing to help,
maybe wullie could put Jame's mig to good use on a rear arch on my cabby

doing the full rear quarter isnt something to take lightly as its a bit tricky to do and get the old one off without damaging anything else underneath.jbh wrote:you ever done a rear qtr ?riklusby wrote:Im in Kirkcaldy, ive got a not bad selection of tools and hammers/various prybars and a mig, ive also got a dry lock up with a calor gas heater if anyone needs things doing in this weather ?? my cars stored in there too so it would have to be evenings or weekends but i usually have time. ive got experience in most things mechanical on E30 apart from stripping engine/gearbox and ive replaced a few panels and scuttles in my time too

Wullie, i'm waiting on a lower arch/quarter repair panel, the rust look's/feel's like it stop's just about 20mm along under the paint, ive had the rear inside trim out and it does'nt affect the rear inner arch, look's like a section of about 3" could be ground off and a section cut from the repair panel, peiced back in?
all going to plan, it should be mot'd this month and i'll beable to use it for the meet in feb?

Had a look at a thread a while back on replacing rear quarter parts, didnt look too hard to do, same as with most jobs though, 80% of the work is in the measuring and prepping of the job ! dont have this problem with mine anymore, i cut all my arches off and welded the rear outers and inners together again further up then sealed and waxoiled

its not the hardest job in the world its getting it spot on thats the hard bit.riklusby wrote:Had a look at a thread a while back on replacing rear quarter parts, didnt look too hard to do, same as with most jobs though, 80% of the work is in the measuring and prepping of the job ! dont have this problem with mine anymore, i cut all my arches off and welded the rear outers and inners together again further up then sealed and waxoiled
Without blowing my own trumpet, ive been fitting kitchens for over 15 years now (not that its got anything to do with welding) but working to the millimeter is everyday stuff as is measure 10 times and cut once but dont worry guys, if i dont think im up to the job ill say so
im fairly flexiable work from home at the moment so im there 99% of the time plus im studying so im never far awayriklusby wrote:Ill see what i can do mate, this weekends going to be full trying to get a battery, alternator problem sorted out on the fiesta im using through the winter and finishing off my sons crosser, but ill let you know when i have a spare day soon. what hours do you work ??
there is a chance i may be getting an entire 325 in the near future, the shell is rotten supposedly but engine should be fine, would anyone be into lending a hand and space to do the conversion if possible as not really clued up when it comes to bmw's.
if you can get it over to my end im willing to lend a hand

I may have some welding to do in a few weeks (when my roll cage arrives), I'm trying to get a friend (who's a welder) to do a homer, if that doesn't work out I'll be looking for an alternative. If so, I'll give you a shout.wullie325i wrote:hi
