With that lot all checked out it was stripped and cleaned again, ready for assembly.
The new core plugs were hammered in.
And the crank was set in its permanent position.
However, once again plain sailing was not the order of the day
If you look just to the left of the oil hole, you can see a tiny inclusion in the surface of the bearing. You could catch your nail on this and had gone in there during the making process, if you look you can see a rotational "shadow" originating from this foreign body. Although they had been in the engine for measuring the clearance, the crank had not turned on them.
The scratches are where my supplier was picking at it with his fingers, he then saw my

face, and set about changing the offending item.
Always check your parts, don't assume that if they are new they are fine. These are high quality OEM bearings. I only found this at the second time of looking.
Luckily this was got from a local supplier, next working day, sadly that was a Monday so no progress for a few days.
With the piston ring finally in stock.........
I could get on with mounting the rings on the pistons.
All the pistons and rods were paired together, to get an exact match in weight.
These could then go into the block.
And the whole of the bottom end stuff torque and angle tightened to spec.
