You're car is in the final stages and the finishing line is in sight. It will get there soon mate. I'd reconsider you're plan though. I know you've had enough of all the crap, but that car will be worth more to you than anyone else so like i said, i'd reconsider. I will bell you in the evening

Will do mate. I'm getting a bit ahead of myself cause i havn't even heard this engine running. All i have is the guy selling it's word that all is well. I suppose it would be wise to go and see it before i get myself all excited and then come crashing down

Not more 'downs'??MFree wrote:Any guesses where we are at?
I really hope some more has been done but it just doesnt sound like it, so Id guess at somewhere around "the interior, some panels and the aero kit to do..."I think the last update i did was back in October last year where Zoom had gotten the drivetrain and suspension, brakes etc on leaving the interior, some panels and the aero kit to do...

MFree,
Got to hand it to you mate. I had a purple BMW 2002 race car about 10 years ago and it was a nightmare - top to bottom - I just couldn't win a trick with it - even when I put it in storage the engine seized...
Eventually I sold it, got enough money back to convince myself it wasn't that bad and moved on.
Keep the faith and how about a few more pictures!

Mfree,
Not wanting to bring up old subjects but i really do hope now that after all has gone on you finally realise i wasnt telling lies at all.
I have always fealt for you in the agro you have had and when we met you knew i was totally sincere.
I hope that when you question yourself and the happenings and things said about me at zoom that you realise i didnt actually do what was said and that i always put my customers and dealings in high priority.
I wish i could help with your engine conversion and when you finally get it running feel free to come to my rolling road and ill map the car for free as i said before.
We open next week with a 4wd dimtek setup and if there is any way i can help you i will.
Jayson.

Well the truth is that as you all suspected, the car hasnt changed since last autumn. Despite other cars being worked on through that time and after. Yes I got burned for the 5th time running. What John did he did well, he just took a year and didnt finish it!
the car needs its interior putting back in, 4 EWS wires reconnecting, bonnet, bootlid, skirts and aero kit fitting, exhaust system to be made on the car (it has the manifold) and badges and thats it!
I am deciding between two people to finish it, i had decided on one but he had the car for 6 months years ago and never got enough time to even start on it and I fear though he's accepted the job, history may well repeat itself! So im considering Kos's guy, I have to say that Bootyman and Kos have been totally stand-up fantastic in helping and supporting me throughout this nightmare. The car IS stunning, the paintwork is out of this world, the rest of the car shapes up well too, im just getting my Schnitzer splitties refurbed now ready to go on the car, i rekon its 5-6 days work for one guy and thats all, its hardly highly skilled work left to do or any engineering!
Jayson - I appreciate that mate. Lets put it this way, recent events have cast the dice a very different way to how it was lying back then... you wouldnt believe the events of the last 2 months... and you are correct, i was totally respectful of you demoing your car for me back in the beginning, its why i went with Zoom! I will bring the car up to you in a few weeks and we can have chat, i have something for you that might be of interest... lets wait and see! Look at the top of this page, more mention of your 'bad exploits' - how did you manage to rack up so much bad feeling and dissent??? How did you manage it??? Its loony!
You wouldnt believe what ive been through recently. Suffice to say my car is leaving John's place next week to be finished by someone else.
I will take you up on your offer, as i want ultimately to remove the vanos and use Motec or something programmable, but that will be some time off i think, for now I just want to get the most reliable power i can and compare Zooms intake airbox with the standard one. The exhaust will be key i think, so im going to take some advice on what to do with that...
I will update soon guys, thanks for all your great support, the Zone has made me some sound mates who i will hopefully see out at the meets this summer finally and I cant wait for you all to see my fabulous angel eye conversion working on my car!!! You will ALL want some then!! I couldnt have gotten this far without the Zone...
Later y'all

It's quiet simple really Ian. Zoom no longer exsists. I think John's had some bad luck and the Company has now folded
I dont know him so cant comment, but from what i've heard from others that no him, he's a decent enough chap and besides no one wants to see any mans way of earning his bread and butter go down the pan

I hope you get it sorted and get it sorted quick so you can enjoy the summer.
I think my problems are down to 3 things.
1) im not the best business man, never have been and doubt i ever will be.
2) i upset competitors with my prices and this causes anamosity.
3) i get wound up too quickly.
I have now taken on staff, i have a unit and a 4wd rolling road and a uk contract with dimtek.
I have been doing live remaps for a few months, and have the record for the most powerfull e36 328 ever recorded in the UK.
I am doing the files for kilander who builds the worlds most powerfull m5 and have a 9 dealer network.
The main issue is i have a reliable team and this has helped me out loads, when work comes in i dont have to arange it any more, i just do the mapping and programming so things run smoothly.
anyway, back on topic.
I wish you all he best with the car.

bad luck, too trusting, naive at times and just took too much on, his engineering skils and knoledge are second to none, and was always happy to help and treated all like a "mate" but unfortunately shit happens.bootyman wrote:It's quiet simple really Ian. Hi all you Zoned out Zoners...
I cant reply to each of your postings individually as id be here all day! But they are all asking essentially the same thing anyway...
Basically after speaking with Nigel Mosely for some advice (as he's one of the genuine good guys) he recommended using Bob again (yes the same Bob who brilliantly managed to get my engine back from that scumbag Foster after it had been sat there in Mark Williams's wrecked car for 3 weeks and he tried to convince Bob that it wasnt my engine that had been involved in the crash to which Bob rightly called him a total liar) but remember Bob HAD my car after Foster had messed with it to rebuild it again, but he was always so busy it just sat there for 6 months before going to Russ who put it back together but to my great annoyance, it took him a YEAR in which time the floor rusted through as it was very damp at his place and he didnt correct any of the piss poor engineering that GTS botched on the car originally (i.e things like the unbushed engine mounts made from steel tube which would have sheared off instantly). Anyway, after speaking with Bob 2 weeks ago, it seems like a repeat of the original situation is going to happen where he cant take the car now due to other work he has and cant tell me when he can take it etc etc so more delay yadda yadda yadda...
So im totally fed up with all this BS and out of the other options presented to me mainly through the Zone, though I do appreciate your offer Demoltcrew to finish my car in 3 days, I am going to go with Kos's guy Phil Crouch as he has a very good record with E30's and E36 M3's, has done numerous E30 conversions and is doing Kos's car now too so I have a direct and trustworthy recommendation (namely Kos who i do trust).I have spoken to Phil and he seems extremely sound to me and will price the job as one cost rather than an open hourly rate. In addition, Im sure he is aware of the fact that my car and it's whole sad story is SO well known throughout the tight BMW community that if he does a good job at finishing it then it will be a hugely positive advertisment for his business and abilities on the Zone and in the wider BMW/E30 community, a fact that Im sure is not lost on him!
So, John is going to take the car to him for me next wednesday which is the earliest time he can do it so he says and while Im not going to go into the details of what has happened between him and me in the last 2 months, suffice to say that we had intended to go into business together with me providing some much needed help with the business side of things, now however given numerous other issues in his life, he is sensibly going to postpone any decision about his future work for a few months, which I totally understand and think its much better for him to just enjoy his own car and get out and do some drifting and see whether he still has the drive to carry on working on conversions and drift cars at a later date when all of the Zoom Motorsport closure issues and his other life issues are well behind him. I am in touch with him but cannot give out any contact details im afraid as he wants to be left alone while he sorts things out, given the very trying events that have befallen him since his road accident. Thats all im gonna say on that subject.
So, with a bit of uncharacteristic luck on my side for once, who knows, the car might actually make it to Phil next week and might even then be finished in a few weeks time. The one thing i need though is a LHD carpet, I was resigned to buying a new RHD one and getting the footwell areas that dont fit re-stitched, but Kos has said that Pete Walsh has a carpet I can buy apparantly, so maybe that will be possible, i hope so as thats the only thing i dont have yet.
Lastly, I have 2 brand new red Sparco Corse seats (they are the ones with the nicely sculpted backs rather than the more straigh backed Pro2000 or evo models) but I really want black or grey so if anyone is interested in buying them so i can get some others, make me a sensible offer for them, I think i paid about Ԛ£260 each for them 3 years ago, so I dunno, say Ԛ£350 for the pair would be reasonable???
I will post another update with some new photos when (IF) the car gets to Phil's garage, until then happy Beemering all of you and once more, THANKS so much for all your support, kind offers of help and valuable assistance from Kos and Bootyman in particular.
Cheers

I have spoken to John again and my car is going to be trailored down to Phil Crouch (Kos's guy) next Wednesday (god i HOPE so!!!) and though my Bonnet, bootlid and side skirts are still with the painter and have been for the last 5 months, John told me today that he has to go up that way tomorrow anyway so is going to pick them up tomorrow afternoon. that way EVERYTHING to do with the car can go together down to Phil next wednesday...
my only worry with the trailor as opposed to a pickup truck is that as my car is not insured at all, let alone for transit specifically, that anything could happen, a puncture and jacknife, rolling the trailor etc - I know im probably being paranoid but Johns 535i sport has quite a bit more horsepower that standard, probably about 250bhp and its going through a 325i gearbox!!! Add 1200 kilos of trailor and car to that load and thats an invitation for a seizure!!!
Im thinking that even though this option is free, maybe it would be safer to use Kos's pickup truck guy who has offered to do the job for Ԛ£150.00 all in.... what do you all think I should do here???
Ok so whichever way it goes, I will go to the garage to meet John when the car arrives so I can go over it with Phil and say my byes to John (as hopefully our other outstanding financial issues should be resolved by then, well they better had be!!!)
I will take some fresh photos of the car then too..
Take care Yawl...

I would say his gearbox seizing is the least of your worries. These boxes can take upwards of 300bhp, day in, day out. I'd be more worried about your car getting side swiped by an artic or something. If you are that worried, and can afford it, get it picked up, if only for piece of mind.MFree wrote:I know im probably being paranoid but Johns 535i sport has quite a bit more horsepower that standard, probably about 250bhp and its going through a 325i gearbox!!! This is the first time I've read this thread, and I wish I hadn't now. How much bad luck and general shitness can one guy have?!
And it's not even finished yet! It's gotta be worth it just for the adventure it would seem. D'you wanna chat about the movie rights?
Probably would've been quicker and cheaper to learn how to do it yourself too

MrDazzle - sure Geez, anytime you want! A working title should be "Beemer Dreamer - disaster becomes success in 5 long years!" ;) LOL
NO but seriously though, I cant tell you how many people as far back as 2002 were telling me this had gone on way too long and was a nightmare and to sell the car as it was and give up on it. I swore back then after Stratos and that Wankstain Graham Foster (God I hope i see that guy somewhere somehow again, preferably when im at the wheel of the M3 so i can run the muvverfolker over with it and with a perfectly set ride height I rekon i might be able to skin the guy alive as he's lying down in the road, what do you think? LOL) took my car apart and sold it in parts like a scrapper that whatever happened i would finish it and as you all have seen, its taken nightmare turn after nightmare twist to the point that i've ended up head in hands in tears many times especially during the last 4 months because i guess i really thought that finally, FINALLY, Zoom/John were the outfit to conclude this sad saga positively at last and it did look that way for some time, until John had his accident really and things slowly fell apart after that to be honest. That was the problem, that i got quite relaxed about it and stopped doubting that we would get there by Christmas!!!
So now I am again, pretty much free of skeptisism once more having had a very very reassuring talk with Phil Crouch about finishing the car, he was super down to earth and sensible in what he said. Foremost is the fact that he has done alot of other cars belonging to some people that i know about who were also shafted by Stratos but above all else, he's working on Kos's car and Ive met Kos once and spoke to him over many months and despite the fact that the guy works really hard in shifts, he's been there to help, returns all my calls, found me someone cheap to transport the car back to London and has set me up with Phil to finish my car with no delays, the guy's a hero in my book given ive done nothing for him (yet!) prior to that barring paying him a pittence for some door cards and a back seat for the car!!! Having said that, he's invited to bruntingthorpe with me to set the car up properly and sort the corner weights, suspension settings, ride height & pitch etc and after that im straight off to a trackday at Snetterton or Brands Hatch and if he's interested, I'm right there to the right of him in the passenger seat when he takes my car out for the first time on the track! That's how i treat mates who go out of their way to help me when i need them, something i thought was true of John Moffat too until 3 weeks ago, which is a shame, a real shame!
So yeah, T-Minus 5 days and counting!!! I have doubted in the last week given my wranglings with John over issues i cant discuss here but which left a very sour taste in my mouth and a sick feeling in the stomach, doubted whether i would see the car again, but given how tight knit the Beemer community is, everyone knows everyone and if anything out of order happened with my car, he'd never be able to go drifting or work in the BMW community again if anything but me getting the car to Phil transpired next week.... I spoke to him today and he seemed pretty boyant compared to other times of late, and he's gonna try and collect my bonnet, bootlid and side skirts which have been with Jason the painter for about 8 months now!!! If so, it means everything will be together and with the car ready to go to Phil's on Wednesday! Hope springs eternal and all that!
So Im fairly happy and relaxed about things for the first time in months now.
More to come next week!

p.s can the mods tell me if this is the most viewed post ever on the Zone with over 7600 views? or is there a thread that beats it in the past? I rekon it'll be up to about 10,000 by the conclusion of this merry jaunt, once i have photos of the finished car up and everything has come up rosey!!!

Idont see why not! I ran the MCARS Online Community as my labour of love for 1 year and got 100 really cool members, mostly M3's and i still have the whole site on CD and said i would get it back up online one day, it took a year of research and was THE only correct source of data on all M Series cars but i started doing things like employing agents here and in the USA to report from shows and meets etc, i did proper tech and style articles evaluating everything from seats to suspension, man that site was the DOGS NADS!!! Anyway, I was just about to start setting up some trackday meets when i had no time to keep it going but i dont see why we cant collectively get a group together of the hottest E30's on the Zone and share the cost of a private track hire - we can get somewhere like Snetterton or Mallory park for between Ԛ£3-4000 for the full day so with 30 of us that becomes well do able doesnt it???
Also there will be no idiots in Sierra Cosworths going off left right and centre and stopping every session every 3 minutes and ruining it for everyone else!!!!!
Mind you, I wouldnt be surprised to see H35 Ian off at Riches or Gerrads or any other long sweeping corner as ive read that the H35 being so front heavy understeers like a Beatch!!!! LOL
Lets get a list going... ok I will start a thread about it now!
Kewell as folk

Hi all
I've had another chat with Phil prior to my car going to him which is now according to John Moffat happening next wednesday - we have been discussing the work to be done and I was saying that given that my suspension is Nuttily totally rose jointed with not one rubber or plastic bush anywhere on the car and with very stiff springs, i think that chassis flex and in particular the opportunity for the rear shocks to punch through the rear turrets over a bump because of the solid rear shoock mounts! (I did all this with the suspension as i was originally aiming to do some tarmac rally stages with the car you see...) will mean that i really should have a proper rollcage in the car, not a cheap OMP bolt in job as they do Zero for the chassis strength, they simply offer rollover protection for the roof (well how can they prevent twisting and flexing if they are not welded in to the pillars roof and floor!?) but a pukka weld in jobbie...
Its the right time to do it with the interior totally bare now...
So Phil is going to dig around to find someone but if anyone here knows of someone that is not extortionately expensive, is quite small and low-key but professional and competent to do a cage for me then please let me know here ok? Im limited on budget so please bear that in mind!!!
thanks in advance!!!

The cages that are made for chassis strength are also not welded into the pillars roof and floors. They are welded to the chassis rails, the front and rear turrets, the sides of the car and then lastly to eachother.
