Hi there, I live in Estepona, Spain and I have owed a 1987 E30 320i automatic for 6 years and it is my daily drive and lugs me and my tools from job to job.
As I retired 7 years ago at 65 I have never been so busy. As a mechanic for 55 years I look after my own vehicles. Fortunately we don't have much rain and no salt on the roads as it doesn't drop below 8c, and that's night time, so no rust, even MX5s.
The car is a 1987 320i in white, 0211 anthazit interior, automatic, no a/c. But electric windows and the only deviations from standard is a remote central locking module.
Not saying it has been a trouble free partnership though, when I bought it for 1200€ it had a badly worn cam and rockers, one of which broke. Luckily in the UK eBay someone had a complete reconditioned head for sale and I 'stole it' for £55.
I fitted a new pump and belts while I had it apart.
Recently I started loosing a LOT of coolant and one serious overheating 'brew up'. I changed the head gasket, plugs, caps, as a precaution but the culprit was the small pipe off of the back of the block, 6€>
Since then the radiator has cracked by the bleed pipe to the header tank but spasmodic overheating still happens, drives great for days then suddenly the guage climes and I have to put the heater on full blast to keep it below the red, checked everything and it isn't consistantly, I can go a week no problems but then, it brews up. I will track it down, one day.
Also I think I have a vacuum leak as she runs crap. Lacks power and is a pig cold.
Other thing is stall when I put it gear, (auto) unless I keep revs up. Might need new fluid/filter as gear change is also lumpy.
Apart from that, and the usual hole in the drivers bolster. GREAT!
