Thought it was time to say hi! I bought a 1989 325i a year ago and have been slowly "doing" bits here and there. More so now while the missus can't force us to go on walks or go shopping :D (seriously though hope everyone is keeping safe).

For some reason I only took one picture of the car whilst I was sheepishly driving it 100 miles back from where I bought it, as below and then in my garage. After that the only pictures have been of parts I'm taking apart to replace seals and remove rust from etc and the bonnets been off for months!

Things I noticed on the drive home were that the brakes were extra soft (since replaced the rusty hard lines and have bought braided flexi's) and there was a ticking noise that seemed to be coming from the dash getting faster as the revs increased. Otherwise seemed to run pretty well!

Probably be asking for help soon! Talking of which, anybody upgraded their flexible fuel line connections? I want to have a braided hose mainly for looks to be honest but this then led to the thought that I should have "proper" connectors on the ends rather than the hose clamps that are on there now. The hose on it now is way overdue being changed I think as it is solid. Is it possible to buy parts to fit to the existing fuel rail/regulator and hard lines or am I wasting my time and should stick to the rubber pipe tech that's already worked fine for 30 odd years?

Cheers all, stay safe!

Pete

welcome to the zone bud, car looks good,

as for the fuel lines? well i've got a full set, pump > filter > fuel rail > FPR & back to the tank,
it's not cheap to do but will last a lifetime, i've also got the proper AN fittings (screw/bolt together) in stainless steel (again not cheap).

if you do decide to go down this route then please do not but the cheap braided steel lines off ebay,
get the from the likes of speedflow as they will be the teflon lined ones able to withstand/deal with the new E5/E10 fuels coming out & they also supply the fittings,
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.

forgot to add that if you do go for braided steel fuel lines there as certain parts along the way you will need to use rubber end caps & "worm drive" jubilee clips, the rubber end caps stop the braided lines from shifting.

Mart.
Thanks, I'm going to start up a build thread and catch it up to where I'm at with the car now if I can. More pics appearing there, I don't know why I didn't take any others of the outside of the car before I rammed it into the single garage and took the wheels off!

Also learning how to use the forum but I'll get there... probably after the cars back on the road!

Thanks for the advice, sounds like I'll be trying to do what you've done, do you have any pics of the connection to the regulator? Does it just connect or is there some modding needed? If you hadn't worked it out I haven't a clue what I'm on about, I think I know what I want but I don't the names of the bits to look for.

Cheers, I was looking at ViperPerformance whilst I was trying to find replacement coolant hoses for the throttle body.

Hi Pete, glad to be of assistance.

No pics at the moment as it's stripped out to replace the inlet gasket.

The hose at the fpr is pushed on with a rubber end cap & worm drive/jubilee clip holding it in place. No mods needed.

As for the parts used? Like I say I got all mine from speedflow as their teflon hose is rated to over 12000psi so I know it's safe enough.

As for the connections, they are dash/an fittings, just be sure to use split ring (flared) spanners to tighten them up.

I used an6 (8mm i:d) braided steel hose & an6 fittings.

Its fit & forget.

That's really helped, thanks, I'll check them out and let you know how I get on.

Good luck with the gasket!
