Trying to fit my 6 point harness to my cage bars and we came upon a snag today. It appears that the harness is not the correct type to be fitted to harness bars.

These are what are on the belts. Ideal for adjustment but they dont appear ideal for fastening round a tube. Anyone got any suggestions as to how these should be fitted or do I need to buy a belt specific for harness bars?

you should get ones specifically designed for harness bar's

it looks like yours are for attaching to eyelets on the floor etc... that's what that clip is for

I understand what the clip is for.

I noticed in the demon tweeks catologue that they have a few belts which are specific for harness bars. However when I rang them they said I could use the standard belts. I am sceptical as it doesnt appear to be the case, just wondered if I was going about things the wrong way.

nope.....at the end of the day, only use the belts in thre configuration they were designed in

in the furutre i'll never use demon tweeks if they are giving out info like that, at the end of the day these are the single most important thing to stop you from dying in a collision on the track, specifically if you have a cage to bounce your head from.

i would be suprised if you pass scrutineering using them like that (but i'm not an expert when it comes to what is allowed at scrutineering)

personally i would demand a replacement or your money back in full (including all postage costs including any costs incurred returning them)

and/or shop elsewhere

I didnt buy them from Demon Tweeks, I rang them to ask for information and help. If there was an add on I could have bought and used then I would have done so.

What's the difference between harness bar straps and eye bolt straps, other than the obvious eye bolt attachment clip?

i would imagine the way that the adjuster strap wraps around the adjuster differs

obvioiusly with yours the tail is designed to act as an adjuster, with the securing point seperate

on the cage type ones, it wraps differently to act as both these things, i don't think (from what i have seen of both of these set ups) that you would be able to wrap the bar type through the adjuster where the securing strap is located on yours, but i may be wrong, i wouldn't be too keen on it though, i would prefer to attach them as they were intended

They can be used for either if the wrap around bit for the eye clip isn't sewn. Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like yours may be. If not, use the bits that you have close ups of in the normal way to adjust length, remove the clips and instead of wrapping around the clip, the belts should wrap around the harness bar instead. No issues with scrutineering etc as they are being used as designed, just wrapped around the harness bar rather than the clip. If the clip is sewn in position, you're in the market for new harnesses. If its only a track day car they are cheap as chips anyway once the FIA date has expired as we can't use them for racing.

Eye clip is sewn so it's no good for what I want. That's pretty much what we had worked out for ourselves. No doubt I will be able to sell these on and get some harness bar ones pretty easily.

They can be made to work

NO need to replace the harness
Simply cut the stitching at the end of the harness with a craft knife

Feed the end through the adjuster and sew them back up again

Piece of piss

Done it several times without problems

You will need 2 adjusters on the shoulder straps for the above to be any use

You normally have one inplace of the eyelet to set the basic length, the adjuster you have there looks like the one that you will have on your chest to adjsut whilst in the car and pull tight, the other ones are not the same and allow you to double loop the straps right at the cage.

My advice would be send them back if you can, or flog them on and do it right, you may be able to buy the correct adjusters seperately though. I'lll get you some pics over xmas mate

Pretty sure they are not the correct type and I dont fancy doing the stitching myself. I have a supplier who does this sort of thing but to be honest I think I feel safer putting them back in the 205 and getting a new one for the E30. No drama

You booked yourself onto the Bedford day yet Jimmy?

If planning to do an MSA event dont stitch yourself...could get expert to do it but depends on what they owe you but sell them and buy others/other...some on ebay or Jimmy will have some good contacts...will be plenty on offer at Autosport only 2 weeks away
