does anyone else on here have 'true' coilovers on the rear? i've fitted my Leda coilovers but to get them to clear the fuel breather system (osr wheelarch) i've had to remove the coilover spring and keep the original pigtail spring for the time being.
does the breather system need to be removed? if so, how? will it make filling the tank a pain in the arse?!

Yep happens on all sets I think, def LEDA and Gaz
Best way round it is to move the top mount holes out slightly and decrease the size of the spacers at the bottom by the same amount
Thats ho a large %age of the PBMW cars have been done

that would affect the strength of the top mount quite a bit i reckon and as mentioned before, the touring is heavier here already.
i've just heard from cosmo in the states and the rear half of their coilover kit (mounted on the original spring perches) is only $100!!! probably about £100 by the time i get one shipped here.

Hi,
The simple fix is to just re-route the plastic breather pipes.
If you trace them back you can even make the whole
arrangement a lot simplier without to much work.

The Gorilla.

really? hmm, what about the fat rubber hose? i take it that's to throw fumes back out as you fill the tank?
where would i re-route to? the pipes go up a metal pipe that passes under the rear seat at present.

Wouldn't effect it at all, your not touching the tomp mount only the turretgareth wrote:that would affect the strength of the top mount quite a bit i reckon and as mentioned before, the touring is heavier here already.
Its a proven fix, on a number of PBMW cars and race m3's

All you need to do is cut off the metal pipe that comes out into the wheelarch, blank it off, and then you need to extend the metal pipe inside the car a little so it comes out into the wheelarch further back, thus avoiding the coilover completely. It worked a treat on our M3 rally car!!

maybe i need to define it a bit betterJimmyC wrote:Wouldn't effect it at all, your not touching the tomp mount only the turretgareth wrote:that would affect the strength of the top mount quite a bit i reckon and as mentioned before, the touring is heavier here already.

the shock top mounts are weak (known fact) but mine are stronger rose jointed affairs.
it's the mounting point on the shell that concerns me a bit more. these are known to be a bit weak (from what i've read) and extending the holes is a bit hairy imho.

interesting! don't suppose you have any pics do you?Terryeds wrote:All you need to do is cut off the metal pipe that comes out into the wheelarch, blank it off, and then you need to extend the metal pipe inside the car a little so it comes out into the wheelarch further back, thus avoiding the coilover completely. the possible problem with this idea is my car is a touring that's used with the seats up and down and ideally i want it looking totally standard from the inside and not have any extra pipework passing through the interior. i do have the extra panels in the rear of the touring that may well help hide it though...?

ok, it's time to revisit this as i've just found a hole in my tank so it's coming apart. this seems like the sensible time to get this sorted!
does anyone have any pics of what they've done?
is keeping the breather setup strictly necessary? it looks like an over complicated arrangement as i'm used to old cars that just have a tank vent pipe!
