Hello all, has anyone made their own coilovers using the kit from demon tweeks or similar, where you weld on sleeves to the struts, if so do they work well and are they worth it?

One of the guys in PBMW championship used these last year, best finish was third (twice) with consistent top tens. I'm going to be using them this year, if you're on a budget no better way to get height adjustable front suspension IMO. Coilover springs are realtively cheap compared to custom made standard shape ones so you can specify whatever lb/in you want and its not a huge cost to go harder/softer. I haven't been able to get any spring lb/in figures for most of the suspension kits that I've seen for sale, so not sure how these folks manage when they want to change if they don't know what their starting point is. There is a long thread on here somewhere about DIY coilovers if you want to waste 15 minutes of your life reading through it, but if I remember correctly most of it was ill informed comments and people having a pop at each other rather than anything useful or constructive. (Along the lines of the people at Gaz/Leda/H&R or whatever will be better welders than anybody else so any suspension that doesn't come from the bling factory must be rubbish and you are taking your life in your hands blah blah  )

Cheers
Brian

these are cheaper from Rally Design or Comp Brake. rally design can do the whole front setup including springs for £85 comp brake don't do the springs but if you get the springs from rally design you're looking at about £65 all in

if yoy get the spring rate or length a bit off, it'll only cost you £30 for a new pair! :D

this lot are fairly clued up on spring rates etc..... http://www.r3vlimited.com/
