Removing sound deadening

I've started to remove the sound deadening from the floor and side panels with a heat gun and a wide chissel which is going fine BUT I'm left with brown residue where it's been, so how do I get rid of this as for the basic reason that it looks cr@p?

Thanks in advance

Ian

Paint thinners or petrol do the trick, better than white spirit I found out after doing half of mine :(

Brush a load on leave it for a bit then use a green kitchen scourer thingy, quick and easy job, just messy and boring

Cheers boys - especially the link to the paint website from Andy winkeye

I'll get the mother in law down to B&Q tomorrow (OAP discount day) and get her to buy some smoothite in white at a 10% discount winkeye

Who said old people arn't useful?

BTW - I've now removed all the sound deadening and it weighs 21 Lbs (weight is my enemy!) but have now gained a good sized rusty gash (not nice!) where I 'Probed' with my man chissel

Bang the old plate out and put a replacement in from either a breaker of new from BMW.

Just pops in and is held in with seam sealer stuff

Nice gash ;)

Cheers for that JimmyC, I didn't realise it was that easy with replacing the plate but thinking about it now, it seems obvious :D

Also just cleaned off all the residue left by the sound deadening, as advised by yourself, it came up a treat, again much easier than anticipated. Just need the paint (B&Q) out of stock

All in all a good job done and a saving of a 1 & a half stone in weight from the 325- -if only I could loose that weight in two nights off my gut & chins I'd be fcuking delighted winkeye

Next job The sunroof for the fitting of the OMP 6 point cage but I'll leave that for another post.....

Thanks to all -

Ian
