Spied these when looking for a neat and affordable solution for locating 2.25" coilover springs on rear trailing arms:

http://www.bpfonline.co.uk/show_product ... atid=11071

These look perfect for the job for me - stock pigtail spring opening is 40 mm iirc - so 42 mm ID is plenty close enough for fitting the stubs on the trailing arms. 2.25" ID springs will be 57 mm, give or take a mm or so, so they're the correct outer diameter too. Flange diameter and thickness etc all look good.

What do you guys think? Reason I ask is because minimum order is 50 units. I'm happy to call them up and see if they'll do me an order of 4, but if they won't - how many other people would be interested in them from a group buy perspective?

Wouldn't 2.5" coilover springs suffer from becoming coil bound in a trailing arm installation?

In short - yes. However with the high spring rates often used on race/track cars, this doesn't appear to be a problem as the spring never gets compressed to the point of coil bind.

So much so, using stock 2.25" coilover springs on the rear is very common in a track/race environment :) iirc UweM3, Daschin etc all run them and it's very common in the US. But the various configurations for using them - from the likes of Rogue Engineering, Ireland Engineering, Vorshlag etc aint cheap especially once shipping and customs have been accounted for :)

Yeah I had seen quite a few of the American boys using them. I suppose as you say on track you won't need the full range of movement, plus has the advantage of cheap springs with many different rates.

If theres no interest, it won't cost much to get a machine shop to turn you some up out of Derlin or similar, certainly cheaper than buying all those

Yeah they won't do lots of 4. And there's another company that stock a similar product, but have a minimum order of £50+VAT. So I'm gonna see how much it costs to get some of these bad boys made up in Nylon 6.6 or Delrin, as you've suggested.

If there turns out to be a demand for these, I can always get more sets made up :)

You would need a very very short spring with some seriously high rates, I would check you can get them first!

Thanks for the input Andrew.

I can't find the US shop that sells the adjustable mounts now, but iirc they recommended either a 5.5" spring or 6.5" spring and offered rates from 450lb up to 800lb. Faulkners do 6" springs in 2.25" up to 1150lbs and they go as short as 4" - I wouldn't think selection would be a problem but it might take some trial and error before finding the ideal setup :)

Uwe made a video with his rear springs showing how much they moved, coil binding really is a problem especially when running the car much lower. Do you have a target ride height in mind?

It would be great if you have a link to that video :) That would definitely make interesting viewing. iirc Uwe ran very high rear spring rates too?

I don't really have a target ride height in mind. I'm happy keeping it where it sits at the moment on the Koni pigtails. However at about 350lb (i think they are about that) they are pretty soft.

His video seems to be down. I would measure the maximum the spring can compress at your current ride height and give that information to the spring manufacturer :)
