I'm building my track car and the time has come to start looking at braking set-ups.
I am leaning towards the mazda rx7 callipers with vw carrado discs set-up but I wanted to no whether there was any other bolt on set from other BMW's as in direct bolt-on callipers with no mods.

Interested to see replies to this, as i to will be looking for a brake setup for my track/road car. I will be sticking with 4 stud, so have been looking at the WMS and Wilwood options for the front with stock rear discs, uprated pads, braided lines and good fluid.

You can get a pretty good setup with the standard calipers and decent pads like PAGID RS 29's.

That said after a few years of using that I'm going to upgrade the master cylinder to a 750i one and fit a pair of Willwood 1.38 - 4 pots for the front. I'll run stock calopers on the rear for now with a bias valve to tune it.

I havent historically been a EBC fanboy but I'll be trying out a set of Blue Stuff and a Set of Orange Stuff to see if they work well enough as one of the down sides of these aftermarket calipers on the front and standard on the rear seems to be a lack of pad compounds.

Given the upgrade isnt all that expensive at £500 or the cost of 1 track day if you like, I dont think I would go for some custom version of another caliper like the RX7 as if the worst happens and you under engineer something you might have a rather big off.

focus on the pads like BP said. avoid EBC as they are not good and you get a lot of vibration with pads deposits and hot spots. I tried the Orange pads and not good.

sth like HAWK are just so so much better and worth the extra money.

a 4 pot with bigger discs and right pads/fluids will see you well. I ran 298.5 mm discs from WMS on the wildwood midilite caliper and with HAWK pads they were awesome.

so no1 nos of any bolt on options?

i have been thinking of porsche boxster rear callipers there 4 pots and radial mounted, i can machine a set of adaptors myself but don't no what to do about discs without buying a million sets how can i find a set that fits?

also think i'm gona go pedal box rather than servo set up

WMS kits are as direct a bolt-on upgrade as exits (via the included brackets), and people have found downsides to the RX7 calipers which still need brackets.

Are the RX7 callipers steel cast bodies? Ie very heavy?

I did a test fit last night and overall I'm very happy so far. The completeness of the kit inc bolts etc, the alignment, ease of pad fitment/removal all seems very good.

On a side note do you recomend a specific torque for the bolts into the mounting braket ?

Yup, 40FtLb for the M10 caliper/bracket bolts and usually 60/65FtLb for M12 bracket/strut bolts.

I run the rx7 Calipers and vw discs set up. It's really good. I use brembo discs and mintex f series pads. I used ds3000 pads before these and found them crap as they melted and ruined my discs. The mintex pads are superb from Questmead. Just ordered 2 sets
