fuel lines and tank

I have some rust to sort out on the o/s/r wheel arch where the fuel hoses that connect to a plastic tank run under a metal guard. The guard is also rusted. Can I re-route the hoses and move the plastic tank to inside the boot? I might do the occasional sprint so would this be legal? It would make more room for the eventual rear coil overs and give the hoses more protection. Also I don't know if the metal cover is available.

Metal cover is available from the dealer still if it helps

Really? I'll see how much. I'm still interested in moving the fuel lines and plastic tank though. What do people with fuel cells do about their fuel lines?

The plastic tank is to collect fuel vapour from the vent system and drain it back to the tank, also stops leaks if you manage to put the car on its roof/side, you wouldnt want it inside the car, if you did it would have to be behind a firewall for any events involving scrutinising. Much easier to just clean everything up and fit a new cover.

I removed mines completely, the tank is nothing more than a expansion tank, if you fill to the brim in a cold morning and the day eventually heats up, you will find the tank half full, it has nothing to do with evaporation (thats what the loose fuel line in the engine is for).

You will need to loop one 8mm fuel hose above the tank and put a 10mm cap on the filler neck, just don't fill to be brim! Dead easy.
