Wow... this does come up a fair bit. Maybe a sticky would be a good idea, with plenty of feedback about experiences as they can change over years, different owners, son takes over things go down hill etc...

rollcentre in St Ives (Cambridge way) near me did what seems a very decent job (pics in the website below), fully welded with three lateral bars (rear turrets, main hoop and under the dashboard), also going to rear and front turrets. Cost around the k and three quarter mark.

I would, but I just dont have the time Rav mate,
Im looking to get the car back on the road by the end of the month and would like one in before then,
Tbh any cage would do, I doubt I'll be seeing any track action, but I would like it if it was as light as poss while still serving a purpose.

That is some cage mate, does the dash fit over it?

Like you say, a "sticky" would be a good idea, with input from people who have bought from,
Good/bad company's, if the cage is a good/bad fit, price range etc etc

Two types of cage. Basic safety, or Safety and stiffness .
Minimum safety standard cage , typical 6 point buy a bolt in one and add door bars, this is designed to keep you safe rather than improve the stiffness of the car. These are the lightest and cheapest option.
Next is a 6 point extended to the front and rear struts, adds a bit of stiffness to the chassis so the suspension works better. From experience an e30 on stiff coilovers and sticky tyres will start to take an effect on a shell that is not stiffent, stress cracks etc. These are typically weld in cages but safety devices do a decent bolt in version.
Next up is a multipoint welding cage, basically space framing the car from the inside out weighs and costs the most.
I only know my local and top cage builder but it’s typical a 2 month waiting list, non in the north east, but there are a few rally cross guys in Durham but I guess it is the usual waiting time. For speed buy a bolt in (you still have to weld in the foot plates) and fit it yourself.

Dash needs to be butchered on mine at the sides, but importantly the screen heater vents can just be squeezed in behind the lateral bar, then hopefully I can drill in from the top of the dash.

Custom cages sell the pipes in varying forms, seems a good idea. I'm going to get the basic 6point from them and then buy a tube notcher and do the turret triangulating myself

I know it maybe a bit far for you, but Rawmotorsport in southampton can do you a great cage.
Rob builds most of the cages for the PBMW boys and also did mine here - his quality is second to none and is very reputable with competition e30s

Mine is a touring

Mine fitted made and fitted by North West RS Centre near Preston.

Perhaps a sticky of local sources is a good idea as mentioned above!
