I got a little carried away today and bought a second race car.. It's an ex Kumho car with a little work to be done to bring it up to spec, but a VERY nice tech spec so far!

240bhp at fly and 200lbft torque
triple webbers
M3 dogleg box
Schrick cam
Hartge manifold
4.1 LSD
AP Paddle clutch
lightened flywheel
Griffing motorsports manifold
M5 brakes all round
2 sets of split rims
Leda Coilovers
Brake bias control

Just needs a bit of TLC to bring it back up to speed!! Parts missing in in the pic are just missing from some work that was being done...easy job!

If anyone's interested in hiring an E30 325 for track day or race..I've got a spare now!! winkeye

Let's just say that I spent more this year on entry fees than I did to buy the car!! It was a no brainer!

I think the two cars are actually from a similar era of racing actually.

Oh..and bonnets and wings are overrated!

Not sure how to take being accused of being a politician! I didn't break Ԛ£2k for the car and all parts to complete so I'm a happy man! I'm even going to splash out on a new GRP front bumper I think!

Looking at the pics of yours though mate..it is much better prepared than this car. I've only really bought it for the mechanicals that I am considering stripping off and adding to my other racer.

Looking good Paul, nice to see you on the Zone again mate 8)

Have you got any engine bay pictures ?

JCB, try a stock air box with a K+N panel filter, a lot cheaper than an exhaust.

I don't know where you would be able to get the sound level checked/measured though ?

problem is getting the drive by measured. getting the static is easy - i can hire a meter from bookatrack and measure the before and after. however the exhaust is knackered and loud. bit disappointed that i might have to take my fancy home-made cold air induction system off as i t could be too noisy !!!

will going back to the the standard airbox restrict my power ?

Paul,

It's wonderful to hear of someone else just splashing out on something that they fancy 8O I am slowly finding out that budget figures get blown out of the window when you start getting a bit keen!

Carry on and I look forward to seeing some updated pics

Right I'm off to hide the credit card bill from the other half (OMP cage, tyres, brakes...shhhh winkeye
Cheers

Just remember your Uncle Dom put you onto it when you're up my arse (on the track) at Anglesey next month, i suspect E30's might be better than the M3 around there :D

The more I look at the pics that I sent you the more I'm starting to realise that I should have bought it myself

It's surely going to be a good test Dom...E36 M3 vs 2 E30s on carbs (Ian's coming too remember!! In owe you big time for pointing me in the direction of it. It's going to make class C a full class next year now...5 cars so far I think.

I'm going to source some slicks in the hope that the weather holds out at Anglesey! There's a spare set of split rims with the car so they can go on them.

The more I think about it, the more I'm expecting to make it into a runner full time. It only needs a seat, harness, fire extinguisher, battery & box and a bit of tlc on the front bumper/panels etc and I'm pretty sure it'd go through scrutineering. Actually, I've just remembered there's no harness bar in the cage, so that may be an issue actually, but easy to sort before Anglesey.

I've been away this weekend, but I'll post some pics of the engine bay tonight. The engine bay needs a good clean up and the carbs need new trumpets, but other than that, it should be ok.

Paul,

I've got some spare trumpets, i'll dig them out and send them to you, think there's only 3 maybe 4 though, I think you're right, class C should be a good place to be next year, who's the 5th, the new E21? Don't need a battery box mate, just use a clamp, if you want i'll dig ours out and send you a drawing, any metal shop should be able to knock you one up in Ali for about Ԛ£15, much prettier and 2 bolts to hold it in, I have a spare red top, in need of chargin but if you want to charge her up it's yours, you going to Brands for Race car? If so, i'll bring it then

Dom
I'm undecided about Brands...long long way for me but it'd be worth it. I'll be taking the other racer though as the new one doesn't have a driver seat never mind a passenger one! I'll take you up on the battery though if you don't mind. Steve Collins is defo going so he could maybe bring it back for me if I'm not there. Do you have a passenger seat in the E36?

Here's some more pics as promised!

They are Porsche one offs apparently. The centres were made for the car and attached to proshce outer rims I believe. I'm hoping to find some more about about them when I do some digging with the original owner.

Time for an update on progress!

The car now is all panelled up and will be racing at Anglesey over the weekend!!! It's taken some doing, but we're there! The mappable ECU that was some kind of one off was being very tempremental so we've ditched it in favour of running off the dizzy. We won't get quite the power output, but at least it'll run.

I took it for an unofficial test drive (on private roads of course!) and I have to say I am gobsmacked at the performance and noise from those triple weber 45's. It is truly amazing when it hits 4000rpm. Time will tell if it's going to be competitive though as we're off to Anglesey tomorrow night...testing all day Saturday and racing Sunday.
