Anyone else going? Open pit lane track day on the best circuit in the world, no barriers, unlimited laps, no insurance issues, no bikers, no tour buses...

Shame, the one last year was amazing. I had numerous laps where I didn't see a single car and taking the 2km straight flat out was a novelty.

£449 I think, the Monday (which I'm doing) seems to have sold out but there is space on the Tuesday date.

Good spot on the Monday availability - I'll tell Karan as I know he wants to come along. I don't know if I'm inner or outer.. hopefully inner as I'll be running slicks

I did the first one of these in April last year and it was fantastic. Used the VLN circuit - Nordschleife and the first part of the GP circuit (Sprintstrecke?). Did the second in August which was N/S only and didn't enjoy it so much, mainly due to weather not being so good as April and the carpark being "busy". Then did the 2-day event with them in April this year on the N/S and it surpassed the first one - fabulous weather and almost clear track (passed a GT3 at the chicane before the old pits and didn't see another car until I was passed by a GTR half-way up Kesselschen). That was one of the best trackdays I've ever done
Can't make the 2-day event in July due to other commitments, but if Darren is organising another later i the year, I'll do my best to be there.
Another great one for those who may not have been there is Spa, which is close to the Ring but I wouldn't do TF at the Ring unless I have insurance. It's just not worth the risk IMnsHO. Circuit Dyas are doing 2 days there in October. Really looking forward to it. Did 2 days with them a couple of years ago and it hardly stopped raining. Still, the T-1Rs coped (didn't dare trust R888s at the time but might do now if not too wet. See what I mean?

However, also have a set of Dunlop wets so will be there, rain or shine.

After a year and a half away I revisted the ring last weekend and for the first time in my e30 which lapped it up quite literally
but every year I go I get a little slower due to the worry of a large armco bill or worst....

and the way the prices are at the moment £450 seems to be a bargain for a full day open pit with out the worry off armco bikes ect ect .... I think this is the way Im going next year for sure.

my thought exactly spic, you got to do 24 laps to make it pay money wise.thats why im booked onto the 18th july, will be my 9th trip and first track day there.no armco bill bikes or hopefully divs.last october i broke an engine mount on the baby karousel, blow the rad etc.no damage to armco or fluids on track and that cost me 350 euro recovery and 99 euro for marshall time.gets very dear very quickly out there.

True in the right car you could do 30 laps in a day? with a couple of stops for fuel? i bet that is hard work. I've done 11 on one hectic tourist day and was knackered!

You will still have to pay for Armco if you have a smash, I would imagine that fluid drops and marshal time is not charged though and recovery from the track is 90 euros.dodgydoughnut wrote:my thought exactly spic, you got to do 24 laps to make it pay money wise.thats why im booked onto the 18th july, will be my 9th trip and first track day there.no armco bill bikes or hopefully divs.last october i broke an engine mount on the baby karousel, blow the rad etc.no damage to armco or fluids on track and that cost me 350 euro recovery and 99 euro for marshall time.gets very dear very quickly out there.

Armco bills are a worry but I would drive the car there and drive the car while on the track with every intension of driving the car and home again... On one of these DN days if you drop fluid and someone crashes on it then it a horrible experience for everyone involved but you are not liable for damages, it's big boys rules.
An important thing to note is that this is NOT the case for Touristenfahrten and indeed German organised track days at the 'Ring where 3rd party insurance is still required.

true about the armco bill, buts its not too bad price wise, what really bumps up the wallet damage on tf is you pay for the loss of takings for track closure, and marshal time etc.
same as trackdays here?you pay for track damage i think

I know the guy that runs DN and this is one of the best track days money can buy. well worth doing as track is quiet, well marshalled and you get the whole of Doettinger hohe straight to enjoy.
TF days are just hideous now and just such a mix of bikers, fast cars with v experienced drivers, coaches, people out on their fast lap etc.
TF days you stil need insurance as its road rules am afraid. the police get called to major incidents so you are expected to have insurance, a valid MOT and all oter documents. you can get fined for not having these as well as not having a full emergency and bulb kit and triangle - 50 euros for each missing item!!
its like an driving day....if you go balls out and are trying to set a lap record then you will come unstuck. wise words about drivign there, enjoying it and needing to drive home.

I have to agree about the TF along with many others im sure... every year I see people walking into the office or being asked to get into the back of the safety car to have a little chat about the damage caused and the cost of the reapairs, they all have the same look off im about to be bent over and
and for me that is just a living nightmare I dont want to come true
These private trackdays have to be for the win.

Spic - you still have to pay for damage to the barriers if you go off on a trackday. However, for me, the biggie is having to pay 3rd party damages if I injure (or Heaven forbid kill) somebody on TF. You don't have that risk on a trackday.spic wrote:I have to agree about the TF along with many others im sure... every year I see people walking into the office or being asked to get into the back of the safety car to have a little chat about the damage caused and the cost of the reapairs, they all have the same look off im about to be bent over andand for me that is just a living nightmare I dont want to come true

Sadly, I will miss this one. Having done the last 3 DNs, I'm gutted not to be going to this one.
