I might be able to get ahold of some 17's for free that fit my bmw but im unsure if they will mess up the handling of me car, has anyone got experience of running 17's?

Free is always a good price.
To be honest the biggest factor will be the tires you choose to run, also very low profile tyres for 17'is will cost you a load more than good old 195/50/15's

Tyres should be no problem, im gonna run fast road tyres and can get at a very good price. As long as they dont kill the handling then i think they will go on, they should give the brakes maximum cooling at least....

That's a good size. Just don't go too wide with the wheel. 7 -7.5 width is fine. 8 will do as well but not the recommended size.jonnygould wrote:prob 205/40/17 as they are cheapest, 40 profile is pretty low really...
I had a set of R888 in 205/40 (got them cheap) fitted on my 5.5 x 17. Worked, but sidewalls are very stretched.

What engine and power?
Sounds like you might be running near stock power. One of the advantages to me with running bigger wheels is the shorter and hence stiffer sidewall.
