After Reading about how you run out of travel on standard length shocks using diy coilovers has got me thing about getting a flat plate welded on the front struts then mounting some adjustable top mounts onto insted of from below so you don't have to lower the car on the shock so much.
Should be an easy job with a jig knocked up, anyone see any problems with this idea?

I've had the same thoughts.
What I'm going to do is take my current camber plates make a 30mm ally spacer and mount it u on to the top of the turrent with the camber plate on top.
Other than that I don't need to make any other mods. I will be able to add about 1.5deg camber on the top, but that isn't a problem for me as we have adjustable tubular control arms.

It was just the loads I was worried about, don't want the three bolts ripping thru the turret!

the three bolts are not going to rip through the 3mm thick OEM turret, don't worry. They shear of themself beforedriftmonkey wrote:It was just the loads I was worried about, don't want the three bolts ripping thru the turret!

Haha!
I was also a bit worried about that, so I'm thinking of stepping up to 10mm, 12.9 grade bolts.

Don't bother, the OE stuff is perfectly adequate. Turret tops only see 10-15% of cornering and braking loads; bottom ball joints/rose joints carry most of it as they're so much closer to the hub centre.Stevin wrote:Haha!
