First track day

Hi all I have been invited on a private track day at knockhill. Only 20 cars for 2 hours.

My car is a standard 325i 1988 Reg coupe. I have replaced all of the suspension with standard springs and shocks from a sport.

My question is I can't change it to a track car as I need it on the road. I have to replace the front pads and disks, what should I get? Using the existing calipers.

Another question is there part worn track tyres for sale but these are 195 55 R15, would they be ok on 15" cross spoke BBS alloys? Currently 205 road tyres on the BBS. Which would be better on the track?

Any other advice welcomed.

Ebc yellow stuff front pads (demon tweeks) and if the discs and rear pads are reasonable then treat your self to a set of r888's about 200-250£ and worth every penny!

Borrow my car

For your first day just pads, hoses, fluids as KH is hard on brakes I cooked the road pads in the m3 2 weeks go in the wet in 10 laps

Stay away from sticky tryes also to much grip, just good road tyres

You don't need to. You've got nice fresh suspension in it and all you need are some decent pads and good fluid (otherwise you'll run out of brakes). I run EBC Yellowstuff pads and find them very good indeed. I also run Motul RBF660 brake fluid ( a little overkill) or AP Racing 600/650. Both are very good ~ though not the most expensive stuff you can get. Castrol do that one, I believe.

As long as your car is mechanically sound, drive within your limits and pay attention to traffic and track conditions you'll be fine and have a lot of fun.

EDIT: and as above, good road tyres are fine. No need for anything sticky.

Cheers all, I'll get some yellow stuff pads, see how the disks are and I think I'll go for the braded hoses on the group buy section if there are any left!

As said knockhill is VERY hard on brakes, at the very least change your fluid, to summin like ATE Super blue, it's not the most expensive but i found it well up to the task wen i had it in the tourer, and its the only fluid that i ever use.

Its a good little circuit to really learn your and your cars limits, just watch the brakes tho!

On standard calipers its probably a good idea to keep a small bottle of your favourite flavour of fluid handy so you can quickly bleed the brakes if you do boil them.

Let them cool first of course!

a 1400kg (maybe 1320kg with the seats etc out) 220bhp M30 powered touring, rounds brands hatch.
it took some doing and a determined 15 or 20 lap stint though!

Maybe it's just me but I can't seam to find Red stuff pads any place for the 325i E30. Just the Yellow ones!

Been to Demon Tweeks and EBC. Am I missing something?

Usually, you just replace the last digit with the colour of pad you desire

I.E Y with R.

So it might be dp4473R ----THIS IS NOT A REAL E30 number!

I've already read that thread and I'd love to put a set of those WMS 4 pots on my wagon but unfortunitly I can afford it

How much would you want for a front and rear set of the red pads and will they fit the standard calipers? Will they be ok on standard vented disk? I'm pretty sure the calipers are the standard ones, not the girling ones! Oh yeah its a 325i abs. Not sure if that matters!!

I'd added the "OEM fit" parts/prices there for you, at the bottom of the page!

As far as I know the pads are the same for both front calipers, and as long as you have vented front discs (not solid) and discs rear (not drums) then it should all fit, I don't think ABS comes into it.

Had a great time throwing it round KH, brakes held up well. They were given a good test and I now have blue disks, think they got quite hot!! Really want to do it again.
