What are the general dimensions and capacities of them? I'm refering to the aluminium ones for the spare wheel well.

Tah :)

Ressurecting an old thread I know, but where do the advantages lie in replacing the standard fuel tank with a boot mounted fuel cell? I have been thinking about a fuel cell for some time now but the more I think about it the more advantagous the stardard tank seems to be;

1) it sits in the middle of the car, so balances weight well (doesn't overhang the rear wheels for the whole 911 feel),
2) with a surge tank, the fuel starvation problem is resolved, and
3) doesn't the factory fuel tank sit lower than a fuel cell mounted in the boot spare tyre well.

In reality fuel cells are very popular so must offer an obvious performance gain, therefore my understanding must be slightly confused.

Any comments would be very appreciated.

1. I think the positon of the standard fuel tank means the car is well balanced.

2.We suffer terribly from fuel starvation and are after some kind of solution for this.

3. I guess it does.

Thanks for the reply.

Hmmm, so in other words, with a good fuel surge tank system, the standard fuel tank is as good, if not better than a fuel cell?

Lots of info on fuel cells here:

http://www.atlinc.com/

The advantage they carry is that they are massivlely safer than a standard fuel tank. I think an alloy tank in the spare wheel well doesn't qualify as a fuel cell, it's just a fuel tank - just as likely to rupture and turn your car into impromptu bonfire as the original tank.

PS I dont have a fuel cell and it shits me up watching some of these old racing videos where the cars explode upon impact.

I'm building a sprint/hillclimb E30 and to save weight I'm getting a tiny 2 gallon tank made up as I only need a small amount of fuel for each sprint/hillclimb run.
