Welding e30 rally car

Hi All

I'm currently prepping an e30 for rallying in the uk was just wondering if anyone had a good idea of what needs welding up to prevent chassis issues and stiffing the shell up?

Also are the suspension turrets fairly strong or do they need beefing up?

Pics would be greatly welcomed as I'm fairly new to seem welding and I would love to see how others have done it on an E30.

I'd do some stuff around the bulk head and fron suspension turrets if i was you buddy, one guy on here has ripped a turret off, can't remember who. I think it's with having quite a large engine upfront and the cars getting thrashed.

We've pounded the guts out of this car and so far it hasn't left any major structural componets behind it's self on the stages.

Keepin everything cheap and simple seems to be doing the job, so easy to start getting carried with bigger this and more powerfull that, driven cars that costs quite a few more pound to put together than this buget special but can honestly say none have been more fun. It's sittin up for the moment as she won't start but another forum member is coming to the rescue with an ecu and sensors for a price that would barely get 4 spark plugs for the escort. Kinda puts it all into perspective. You buildin a wagon for the BM challange?

Nope not doing the challenge as I want to run a Quaife rear diff and only do gravel events. However I am co driving in the 205 challenge and have seen the BMW's in action. I'm not keen on the challenge rules to be honest.

yup and standard diffs, carpets (fire risk in my view) and gearbox plus engine. Thing is the cars are so standard that they cant handle gravel that well. I know the idea is to keep the cars at a standard level to keep it cheap but the problem is as soon as they get on some gravel they struggle to get any traction. Thats why I said nope and I'm fitting a quaife and a schrik cam so I can go and play in the woods properly on Nat B rallies, like the Tempest and BTRDA rounds.

Time for an update as you boys are not with the latest regs in the RWD challenge, you are allowed a LSD and we have made a kit to modify the lsd into a cracker, it works brill with double the plates, plus you do not have to run seats , carpets etc, we just told people to hang onto them as the 325 is a good road rally car, plus we have some subtle mods to improve every thing. They are awesome in the woods simon, so i dont know where your info came from, the cars were top 2wd on Newton Abbot, top 10 on Swansea and running up to 7th overall on Mid wales,
Anyone who wishes to check one out, we will be having a test day in early January, before we take the rwd challenge winners to Sweden for their prize.
