Im not sure what to get. Thre's straight forward switches then fancy ones with diode packs.
I had a rumage at dad's work and found some straight forward cut out ones will I be able to fit these to my car?

Pays your money and takes your choice. Mines a bog standard kill switch which is enough for "scrote-an-earing". No fancy diode just a resistor to dump the load in.
Are you keeping the key ignition or just a switch/button affair?

Cheap ones are OK as long as you wire the alternator positive output wire to the battery positive, not the switched side.

This is wat I need help with regarding the whole alternator bypass etc.
I'm going to be keeping the key for now for security purposes though I don't for one second doubt its a piece of piss to hot wire.

Is it the one with the red key? If so, look at how they work, and you'll see that they're not that difficult to bypass! Used to do it all the time in my Jeep, some fecker kept stealing the red key!rix313 wrote:This is wat I need help with regarding the whole alternator bypass etc.

The engine will still run for a short time until it starves, the battery cut out is designed to kill the engine then and there and stop anything from sparking a fire.

Do you have a drawing or picture or something of how its wired up? What resistor did you use?shorty73 wrote:Pays your money and takes your choice. Mines a bog standard kill switch which is enough for "scrote-an-earing". No fancy diode just a resistor to dump the load in.

something I am interested as well. Always thought that these switches just disconnect the battery. You live and learn!rix313 wrote:Do you have a drawing or picture or something of how its wired up? I'll try and dig out the wiring diagram but essentially:
1. Main contact switches the main battery supply cable
2. Aux 1 switches the coil +ve contact
3. Aux 2 grounds the main feed to 'ground' via a resistor.
I'm sure someone will argue this if its not correct
