Right then, few of the old school scumbags were interested in an airfield day in the new year where you can thrash you car to bits for little money.

The dates:

Adbingdon(oxford): 27/02/2009 .... £99

The company to book with:

http://www.motorsport-events.co.uk/

Oxford is central as well, so it better for more people, think Bristol, think Essex.

You get 5 hours of open pit and pretty lenient marshalling but keeping it sensible enough. If you drift all day and keep spinning off, or getting in the way you'll be going home, but a bit of arse out action is common and they don't mind if its controlled.

We share the driving and it makes for a very cheap day, with open pit its a great chance to share the costs and still have more than enough time on track...assuming your car can take the punishment!

Slicks allowed, cars have to be up to MOT standard but they won't ask for the certificate. DB limit is around 100, all but the totally council will be fine.

Jonb, Tomson, Theo, Karan, Jhonno, Ziggy, E30mark, Simon14, Barry, Kevin893485345, 1an, northloop, Daveherotouring sign up ladies. Come persuade me to get rid of my 205, you have to beat me first though. :P

Could try getting discount, but I doubt there is much point tbh as its pretty cheap anyway and they usually sell out.

Jon

EDIT: I think abingdon seems to be the best bet so I have taken the other option away. You can book online, but I prefer phoning up as you get to speak to a nice lady called Natasha :)

I personally will be booking in the the next week, so I am putting my name down as confirmed, please add to the list once you have booked.

It will be a great day I am sure, whenever you are too nackered(or the car is) to drive you can just jump in someone elses car for some passenger laps.

Sign up, a meet, a chance to thrash your car in relative safety, a burger van, a toilet... Need I go on

as my original aim for my 335's first outing was Abingdon was 5th December, I will be up for this as long as the car is done! Best mate lives just over a mile from the airfield and he has a 5 series he wants to bring so that could be 2 for your list :)

£99 is a bit steep for an airfield day in the widdle of minter IMO.

Alternatives Theo? Only thought process was that it would allow first timers the chance without worrying about Armco. When all you can hit is a couple of cones, you can push 100% and find where you run out of talent. :D

Silverstone GP in March is what I was hoping to do in the track slag, but I really don't know if the car will be done by then.

Its not going to book up for a while yet, so no real rush. Give it two weeks in case anyone comes up with any other suggestions then book it.

1an, there is nothing stopping you booking btw, I will 95% be there in the frenchy.

Hi Jon, have you seen any 2009 dates/prices for Combe yet? Mid way between the two circuits and just off the M4 so pretty handy for anybody travelling. I'd fancy Combe if there is a day at sensible price (Sub £150ish). If not, either of the other days.

The above company have one for £199 in March :(

That is too much for our scrapper and most people I think? I'll keep my eyes open for alternatives with other companies. Feel free to post up links as well guys.

Looking at doing Abingdon, for the track car.

Whats it like compared to a track circuit as have not done an airfield day before.

Does anybody have a circuit layout for this venue, and what is the typical length of a lap, and are there any long straights or is it tight and twisty ?( Need to know what diff to run )
How hard is it on tyres compared to a circuit and any particular advice for an airfield track, does it have any pit garages, shelter against the elements etc.

Cheers,

Dave

Pit garages :gay: :) Sadly not! Its an airfield sir, not Brands hatch.

I would have said the circuit is between 1-1.5miles long. I get to about 100-105mph IIRC in a car with 200bhp per tonne, so as short a diff as you can get really. Surface is abrasive compared to proper nice tarmac, but nothing excessive. Some part worn slicks lasted 3 events and they are the driving, the braking and the turning wheels. The rears have hardly worn.

On the plus side, you can drive as hard as you want without the risk of damaging your m3 and you get A LOT of track time. I wouldn't go expecting the same experience as a £300 day at silverstone or brands though! 8O

Thanks Jon.

Regarding garages just wanted to know, so if I need to bring the tent and pump the spare tyres up, before I leave. Many track days at different venues have taught me to ask first then be surprised on the day.

Sounds like it could be a good day out.

Cheers,

Dave

No problem Dave, hopefully see you there? Definatly best to ask and get an answer than turn up unprepared. We always take lots of tools having a french car. :) I've lost count of the amount of 'other peoples' cars that I have bodged back into life. 8O

I'm going to be booking it in the next week or so. I have 1 more day to decide whether to get in on a group buy of a LSD for the 205. You would think it was an easy choice, YES! but its £540

I have :) Shall I edit the first post?

The general opinion seems to be that abingdon is the favourite due to location.

I've got to decide on ramp rates for this plate diff. You can vary on throttle and coast ramps and have different preloads effecting how harshly it cuts in. 45/45(slip) is looking like a favourite on the 205 scene. Thats 55% lock up 8O :D

Thinking of bringing some slicks to burn off so does anyone know if there's a watchfull eye over the wheels or is there a chance of them being half inched?

Take a chain and padlock. Its your road wheels you need to worry about when you have the slicks on.winkeye
