Yup. Keep going down the A229 until it becomes really really really isolated! :snigger:

Many thanks for that Theo, much appreciated and looking forward to feeling the benefits...

Only just saw this thread, so I realise I'm a bit late joining in on this one.

I did an E46 rack conversion on my space-frame track car (that uses E30 sub-frames, LSD, suspension etc) a short while ago and posted the details here if anyones interested: http://www.e3024v.com/board/index.php?topic=556.0

The 3-turns lock-to-lock is fantastic, and aside from the engine conversion, it's one of the best mods I have made so far. I'm using an E36 steering column on my track car, so the details of how I connected the column to the rack are irrelevant. However, the details of how I installed the E46 rack (which is very similar to the E36 rack) may be of interest to you all.

Just a suggestion: If you plan to seriously throw your E30 around or have built a serious track car, then don't use those front mounting holes. They won't break immediately, they'll first suffer fatigue over time, and THEN break 8O.

The 2 halves of the uj have got like a male/female setup going on in the centre, one side has got a plastic collar type thing pressed in, is it worth changing and can you buy from BMW?

It is available new - part number is 1114508, and it's less than 50p. That said, I don't think there's any need to change it as the aluminium guibo all but negates the requirement for it as everything is rigidly mounted.

Thanks, do you have part numbers for the nut and bolts or will any with locking nuts do?

Any locking nuts will do mate, ideally oval nuts rather than nylock.

With regard to the propshaft guibo, it's possible I suppose but not something I've really looked into.
