Todays Update!!
Rear cage seamed in, cage gussets made & welded in, front floor - o/s repaired & exhaust heat shield stud replaced, o/s/r arch & rear sill repaired, n/s front scuttle panel repaired & bonnet washer jets welded up.
The rear arches have both been rolled and I've seam welded the arch lip to the inner arch bowl all the way round - but couldn't get a decent pic of this!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's just the underside of the boot floor to tie into the rear panel & the front valence blanking plates & the welding's done.

Jimmy those door bars look high. It's going to be hard to get in and out of there

No worries on the hieght of the door bars, I was out in it like that last year and all the race cars with custom cages I've seen are exacly the same.
If they are too low its far to easy for a car to get over them in a big T bone
FEV's website is http://www.f-e-v.co.uk/
More pics tomorrow its come on ALOT this weekend

Dude, massive amount of work gone in here and the pics are good. I am new to this and have just paid ┚¬300 for an E30 that has seen better days. I am living about an hour north of the Nordschleife so plan to visit a good deal but now swallowing hard at the prospect of what could lie in wait if I want to make this car serious fun. Looking forward to more pics.

Looking good Jimmy
Your car is at exactly the stage mine is. The problem is I am 70 miles away from it so I cant pop round to take pics while it's being done
I assume you are going for a 'race car finish' rather than a show finish?

70 miles pah! mines 350 miles from me!! The pictures are all emailed to me by the guy doing it, he's in south wales and i'm in Southend, Essex
I'm "popping" over tomorrow though, 5am leave should be home by 7pm!!
I would be quite happy with a "race car finish" but the guy doing it is a car restourer by trade and a total perfectionist so I reckon it may well turn out at the other end of the scale
Cant wait til next Thursday when she comes home
Sorted all the dash with new warninhg lights, start buttons, elec cut off and FX buttons (mission control!!) and a nice shift light put into the instrument cluster where the check light was

I assume the spray job is inside and out. What about under the bonnet? Mine isn't being done there. The hard bit with the spray job is the inside, getting in to do it with all the angle iron is one thing. Trying to actually spray round the cage is another
I was going to ask the kind of money it's costing you but perhaps it's not the sort of question I should ask

Yeh spray job is inside and out, the inside is going to be satin black for easy of keeping it clean, Al wanted to do it white, but with the cage in there and spending its life at dusty circuits it would just look messy.
He's doing the inside of the boot, but not under the bonnet- i'd not long put the new motor in and there was no way it was coming out for the 5th time in a year :lol
Like I say popping down tomorrow to see how it looks in the flesh, the inside is a PITA with the cage but Al is an expert so I know it will look great
Its not cost a mint TBH, i'll PM you if you really want to know rather than post on here though ;)

Yep thats right I went to pick up the car today!! Ii cant tell you how happy I am with it, it looks so much better than I could have hoped for!!
Als done a great job, and as I say it looks fantastic!
Its strange as today is a massive step forward in a 2 year build thats cost me god know how much cash, time, effort and a fair bit of heart ache. And i'm a bit chocked up to see it all coming together at last and the hard work all paying off!!
So whats been going on since my last post??
Well I went down last week to see the car, it was all pre fitted and in primer for me to check I was happy with everything- its alot easier to snag now rather than when its all nice and shiny!!
So what did I see last week then, well the inside had had coat one of satine black, the outside as I said was all primered and dummy fitted, with a cheaky bit of white top coat!!
So heres the pics from last week:

On friday I said to Al not to send me any further pics, as I wanted the full "PIMP MY RIDE" effect when I came to collect it, and my god did I!!!

Well done Jimmy, it looks really good. I'm like a big kid waiting to have a look at mine which should be ready about now too
For a profiled cage it's around £540 + VAT from memory.
The guy who fitted mine worked out the hours and it should have cost me £1500

:lol had the same "asda" comment on seloc
Had a very positive weekend on the car
Got the petrol tank back in and all plumbed in,
The prop and exhaust back on
The pedal assembly back in and new clutch master cylinder fitted
The heater box back in and plumbed in
Fitted the wipers
Fitted some trim
Primered up some bits for the inside for painting green: handbrake, rearview mirror, petrol hatch cover, and dash surround
Next big job is the rewire
but after that it should be running
Decided to get the dash flocked aswell now, so just waiting to hear from Dips
And also seen some nice carbon door and rear quarter cards- just need to save some cash for them now
