hi all,
not been out for a bit, i've had loads of other stuff to do and it'll be a week or two before anything else gets done an all, still waiting for my other suspension bits to arrive to so i can finish her off then i guess it's when funds allow it'll be rally time....
i'll keep you posted

ps glad to see you got the brace ric, it's not the lightest but it's not really heavy i mean it's only 2 odd kg's and you won't find many stronger than that!

dont worry i am laughing its so good and it makes me more excited about getting my mega long project finished.

its been a bit of a 1 step forward 2 back jobbie.

once it gets going properly i will get a tread going in the engine swap section.

kevo i hope your using you 318is as a run around? looks like good roads out there.

nah not as a runaround, it's my playing dull car, i've got an mx5 for my laying generally car back and forth to work and stuff and a supermoto/enduro as my other toy to really play on. i'm a greedy bear.

hello again all,
Finally started doing a bit more work on the bm today, started by making the coilovers, they're not quite assembled yet (and i'm making them one by one so only the drivers side is half way there). heres a couple of piccys to whet your appetites...

also i took a look at my strut brace, now it was off an e30 m3 as it was the best one i could find, it cost £60 and was supposed to fit except for the rocker cover was supposed to be very close to the brace but it was suposed to clear enough to run fine. i said supposed to so much because well quite frankly it was no where near, it was an inch too long and the clearance was clearance but only about a rizzla's width  anyway it got chopped about last night and is now fittable but needs painting again  as for the world cup cross member, i'm still waiting for a set of mounts to be posted to me so that shouldn't be too far off being finished; i'll keep you posted

i'll stick some prettier piccys up when they're all finished and painted up.

Nice work

I like the clever increase in ride hieght by the custom top mounts and they even have a grease nipple.

Top work fella!

Takes me back to my road rallying days, but I never put half as much effort into my cars (most probably why I never won anything). :D

well hello,
been a while, but heres some pics of my latest job. diff ramp angles. been reading all about them and thought i'd have a go, they are supposed to make the diff act more like a motorsport version as in they lock up easier thus being more fun amongst other things, still yet to put them in the car but when i do i'll let you know the results be they good or bad.

aloha again,
i've made the decision now regarding my engine and i'm gonna build myself a nice fresh m42, lighten the flywheel an stick an e36 318is box on it which combined with my diff should give me about 100mph flat out and a nice bit of acceleration. i may lighten and balance the thing too depending on how much it costs an i'm looking into getting it setup properly with some sort of chip on a rolling road or poss megasquirting it. in the mean time here's my progress for this evening...

i didn't get a photo of the engine completely assembled but i'm sure you know what that looks like anyhow

not really too much to see generally but it's always nice to get a before and after shot eh? oh below you can see what 100,000 miles does to a bmw block... absolutely nothing! it's still got the factory cross hatching in there so i'm not even gonna glaze bust it.
Image

if any of you have heard about a profile gasket failure and aren't sure what it is heres a picture of a failed one. this thick rubber gasket had corroded away and led to the coolant being lost in quite an awkward place to detect.
Image

the first thing to do once i make a tool for getting the crank bolt out, (bloody tight!!!) is i'll be stripping the block completely and sending it away to make sure it's not cracked and is sound. i've learned this by my mates mistake who has just fully assembled his pug 205 replacing his old cracked block with a nice shiny new cracked block. not a happy man. i'll keep you posted anyway bye for now.
