Zoners track day cars
Moderator: martauto
Some very good cars/pics in this thread - I like the steering column modification agent006 has done, I was thinking about doing this the other day and how easy it might be.
Anyway here's my car;

Front spoiler/splitter which I bodged on yesterday.

M30 3.5l engine with schrick 284/280 cam and BBR chip
Modified downpipes and custom stainless exhaust
E46 m3 steering rack and solid aluminium coupling guibo
Adjustable front top mounts and strengthened front subframe both c/o uwem3
WMS 280mm 4 pot front brakes, 280mm e30m3/z1 rear brakes
25mm brake mastercylinder, golf mk1 brake servo, braided hoses
SD 6 point cage, buckets & harnesses etc
Audi VDO oil pressure, oil temp and volts gauges
15" BBS and r888's
Poly engine, gearbox, diff and subframe mounts
Hartge Bilstein shocks and H&R springs - I want coilovers!
H&R arb's and rose jointed droplinks
3.64 LSD
z3 shortshift
m3 wishbone bushes
e24 oil cooler
e32 electric fan
e28 flywheel and clutch
Rieger front spoiler and splitter
Things I want but generally can't afford;
Coilovers
swirl pot setup
single skin grp bonnet
megasquirt/proper remap
hydraulic wand (handbrake)
lower the steering column
rebuilt diff with more lock
adjustable brake bias

Hello,
This is my first writing on this forum.
Here's mine: '88 325i.

No spectecular mods done yet. Needs some more work. Also a respray. I can't race in this color, can I? Could also need a lowering.

Theo325 -lovin the white two door
but i'm slightly biast of course
FSQ but do you get a lot of understeer on yours on the track? noted the comments on coilovers (I'm the same!)
My wish list for my 325 track slag are:
No 1: Z3 1.9 steering rack -
2. Coilovers
3. Brakes - Wilwood 4 pot
4. Fit swirlpot
5. replace roof skin as it looks crap after the sunroof removal but not an essential for speed
My front splitter is in bits after it came of and got run over
KEEP THIS GREAT THREAD RUNNING!!!

The Isle of Man: No National Speed Limit, No Gatso's, No Nanny State, a disused airfield track 1.5 miles long, the best mountain road to drive on...Come and Play!
Cheers Lloydie, don't think there is any doubting that e30's look best in white
I'm not personally encountering masses of understeer, it's responsive and really grips well. Karan will confirm that I am not talking with a rosey view on things, after he drove it for a couple of laps at Silverstone GP the otherday.

no understeer on theos beastie at all, very well balanced...easily promoted oversteer with trail/left foot braking.
grip is epic too as are the brakes
some coilovers and fine suspension tuning and i reckon it would give CSls a mean time in the corners

sounds quite inpressive considering there is no weight over the back and more weight up front,Karan wrote:no understeer on theos beastie at all, very well balanced...easily promoted oversteer with trail/left foot braking.

makes me think more and more about doing this to mine but i dunno.
Well boys I guess it would be rude to not add my little car although a lot less money has been spent on mine than some specimens on here.

These 2 pictures were taken at Donnington and Silverstone.
I will add spec later as busy getting ready for Spa & Nurburg Ring

It's a Skyline thing.............you wouldn't understand!
Some more of mine at Brands and Rockingham. No Understeer here.....Well maybe a little in the wet but the right foot cures that

heres a few of mine, first car i put together when i was quite young, been sitting for a while in my mums garage, finally got it out. looks a bit of a dog from the outside, but its what is under the bonnet that counts.

and one a few who recently saw the thread in photo section

had to redo the set up in the boot due to robbing one fuel pump for another car.
should be back out soon for some track days.and full spec and pics soon.

Early days yet as I've only recently cleared some garage space. This will be my PBMW racer for 2009 season. Weld in cage, partially completed, will have X rear diagonal with harness bars, tied into the shell with steel fillets as in the second photo. DIY type front coilovers, not sure on the rear yet. Will be building an M40 for it, engine stripped out at present. It was bought off the zone as a 316 with overheating problems.
Final photo - courtesy Dave Kirby aka E30nerd - was my 318 from 2007. Built on a real budget with loads of mix and match second hand stuff from pistonheads, ebay and the zone. DIY type front suspension with Koni inserts, Spax adjustable rear with harder springs, poly bushed rear end, eccentric front bushes, rear disc conversion, otherwise more or less standard apart from a Milltek exhaust and the usual safety stuff for scrutineering.

Keep them coming - Fantastic pics of some serious machines, I'd love to be in these cars on the track as they burn past machines far younger and far more expensive

I bought the cage off of here from "agreen" for £450 and had to drive to Sandringham in Norfolk to get it - i know where there's another up for grabs shortly for £550, never fitted, still in the delivery bubble wrap but missing the bar that runs across the top of the windscreen, iirc - £80 from SD.
i thought you bought it from him i ust wasnt to sure that was all,Nelly wrote:I bought the cage off of here from "agreen" for £450 and had to drive to Sandringham in Norfolk to get it - i know where there's another up for grabs shortly for £550, never fitted, still in the delivery bubble wrap but missing the bar that runs across the top of the windscreen, iirc - £80 from SD.

I'm looking forward to seeing the 'Orange and Black' beast of Northloops at Anglesey on 1st Nov - Are any of you guys going? Would be great just to meet up and produce a group track E30 pic...

Looking nice shorty - nice to see someone who must be more skint than me! I've got some work going but I'll have to add your rad & brakes to my list sometime
I know I want to but my wallet is falling apart at the seams!AlpineAde wrote:Why resist?

Nice work, shorty.
There's a credit crunch over here in the UK you know?
Bet I don't make it to October without going somewhere though
Sandown looks good fella. Another one of my V8 Supercar favourites.
DD2000 make sure you speak to nigel for a rad at cdh. Light as a feather but will keep you cool.

Shorty - The car set up is looking amazing - I wish I was more skilled and adventerous in the spanners department
Q: The Hottuning manifold - can a quickrack be fitted with this manifold fitted or does it make it impossible?
I'm going to use your list of kit and the pics and a target to aim for with my budget track car.
As for those uprated brakes - TOTAL car porn

TBH it's my first race car so it's all trial and error. the bulk of it was done I'm just adding/changing stuff to suit what I want.
Saying that I think a lot of the original car has now gone!
A. I don't know about the quickrack? Not had any experience with one so couldn't honestly say. The hottuning manifold is ok for the money though. £200 quid for some of China's not so finest welding and bending
The brakes are superb. Can't wait to try them in anger.
Has anyone got opinions on Wilwood Polymatrix Pads?

No but i fit an e36 rack with my hottunning manifold and it doesn't fit!
What i had to do was press the manifold where the coupling was fouling and move the rack about 10mm to the right of the car.
Bit of drilling and welding of new plates and it was done!
I had the tracking done yesterday and now you would never know the rack was not central, and believe me i pushed it to see!
