Ring times?

Just wondering has anyone got ring times?
Also with your ring times spec of car, how many laps have you got under your belt etc.

just want to get an idea what time my dad should be aiming for

Your dad should be aiming to NOT time himself. It's the one sure fire way to ensure he has an off. It also invalidates your insurance if you have a crash and a stopwatch is found running in the car

But if you want to push me for times ........ 8 mins 45 seconds for bridge to gantry in a 126bhp 205gti. I don't often time myself for the reason above.

I have done around 700 laps over the last 4 years at a guess.

i will use my phone stop watch i know its not accurate but still close enough

or is there one on the OBC

he did get 9.47 in a 2twonne convertible last year in the wet so not all bad and only had 5laps

Times really are totally irrelevant, you don't get any prices when doing tourist laps, so what's the point? All it does it make you try to drive outside of your own abilities and have an off. Either that or it makes you over aggresive when you catch a slower car.

Put your stop watch away, enjoy the place and stay safe........

If you see any cars with Northloop stickers on them ask the driver for a passenger lap, they will gladly oblige

In which case give it to someone who has done ALOT of laps and let them drive it for him. He will not find out how good his car is after two visits. He will still be overtaken by locals driving their focus estates to the shops in Adenau via the track

Don't think he will be letting many people drive it altho it could be persueded

im sure there will many other trips in the year or hopefully

im sure sabine would get round in a decent time

just see what the world brings

but i think savin money for semi slicks will be in order

You wont get much use out of R rated (semi slick tyres) in March, probably be better off buying snow tyres The weather can be pretty dodgey at that time of year. Semi slicks probably wont get up to temperature, get some good road tyres and save the 'R' rated for later in the year.

BMW CSL M3 sub 8.00 mins. [ Test /Race Driver]

Couple of E30 M3 [2.5 ltr to Grp A / DTM Spec] also around the same time.

On 'R' Compounds, anything sub 8 is moving.

Not sure sub 8 is obtainable in ''Open'' session due to the volume
of users.

Dedicated Club day, limited numbers, dry but coldish, and the right
car can do around 8 - 8.20 but only in capable hands.

Anything under 8.30 is very respectable.

The comment about racing against the clock is very well made.

The 'Ring' will bite, and bite very hard, so always respect it.

The Armco repair charges are around 2750 euro per length,
worth remembering.

As is the bill for closing the track. I had the misfortune to drop oil last year and was charged £1000 for 30 minutes closure.

I would suggest an experienced 'ring' driver in a decent E30 M3 would be capable of times around 8.30-8.45. A modified one probably 8.15-8.30.

Dirk Hoyesman managed an 8 minute btg in EVO magazines E36 project car. That was a closed track with a guy who has done many thousands of laps (nissans skyline test driver). This wouldnt be possible on a tourist day.

Sub 8 minute laps are very very few and far between these days. You need a GT3 or my friend Thorleif in his white CSL to do these times. Both must be driven by people with ALOT of laps under their belt and an unusually clear track

As said though times are irrelevant the important thing is having fun and taking the car home in one piece.

i've been 3 times now and driven around 30 laps, i love it but i've never bothered to time for the reasons stated and i have to get the car home!

I was told by the red dragon never to go flatout round there because the ring will bite u on the ass. The number of accidents there rienforces this for me!

U can have alot of fun driving round there going 80/90%, once your familiar with the layout it becomes more fun i find. But respect is a key word!

I used to time, but now I don't. Think the initial buzz of timing and trying to beat times wears off when you do actually just feel like you are going fast. I just love lapping, and the time isn't important. Not as important as beating Porsches! haha.
