yup, had the car 2 days... loving it so far.

booked a trackday at Mallory Park for the end of the month.

before then, I need to buy and fit some -60mm springs (already got uprated shocks) and buy and fit an LSD'd rear diff 8)

plenty of pics and in-car camcorder footage coming.

got a sucker mount for the windscreen, but don't think that'll show much driftyness... so might have to mount it further back in the car - any ideas?

Don't want to pee on your fireworks too much, but if you were thinking of sideways as in drifting broadside round the corners in lower gears with rear tyres smoking, the organisers will likely want a wee chat as you're at high risk of being collected by another car taking the corner at normal speed.

Cheers, hope it goes well :D

Yes I believe your car was there, did you sell it to Paul/ Steve/ Rob?

From the pic in your signature, I was following them when a front brake pad departed because the wrong disks were fitted (solid instead of vented)

Leaving them with no brakes coming into Gerrards 8O

Yea I sold it to Paul, I was told there was a few of them but never met the others..

As for the brakes - wtf! Must've changed something on the front then as there was grooved front discs and fast road pads - which had me safely round Castle Combe last year :)

that'd be me,

however, i did stay on the "black stuff", out of my 12 sessions, which was approximately 60 laps, I spun out at the hairpin 3 times and came off at the end of an 100mph drift on Gerrards, when I was the only one on track.

which i wouldn't say was bad for a first outing in the car.

was rather appauled by the competitiveness between the PBMW drivers and the MX5's considering it was an "open track day" where complete novices were on track.

they should keep their competitiveness until the Sunday when they were "racing".

I'd guessed that  was only trying to wind you up

A few of us were a tad pissed at the MX5's any gap anywhere was OK to use, which in the end lead to a bit of a free for all- more like a testday, and I heard a few moans about drifting too, so in some respects a bit of a mess all round.

Didn't think it was too bad though, and I think the briefing has alot to answer for there

I did feel at points like a bit of an moving target, running the new engine in on track with cars that quick was a tad nerve racking at points

Still had a great weekend with some fantastic racing on the Sunday- Well done to all

was that the briefing that was (word for word)

"beware of safety of other cars"

Riiiiiiiiiight, so that meant 2 MX5s were allowed to overtake me on the left AND right on the enterance to Gerrards?

I couldn't give a flying one what people said about me drifting to be honest, I went there to practise how my car handled in different circumstances instead of doing it on the roads.

Friendly bunch then I see

Personally I thought that was the worst briefing I have ever attended, unless you were sitting on his lap you couldn't hear him, and as he made it out to be a very relaxed day with very little emphasis on overtaking, i'm not surprised at the way some people were.

As for the drifting, I think Brian hit it on the head with his earlier post. And on a quick day as it was on Saturday it makes anyone drifting a bit of a moving target as its slows you so much round the bends.

Looked like you were enjoying it though :) and 12 sessions- how did you manage to blag that!

What's "racing" meant to mean? What's up? Get done by a bunch of hairdresser's cars on crap/controlled tyres? winkeye

"Racing" is exactly what they were doing on Sunday, the official test day was Wednesday, which is a bit impractical for those that live a long way from the circuit.

Perhaps several of the Max5 drivers were slightly pi55ed at slow cars fcuking about practising drifting on a trackday?

One of them certainly complained about a slow Subaru WRX driver that hugged the left, forcing him to pass on the right. (In a 1.6 MX5!)

Trackdays aren't intended for drift practice, there are more suitable venues.

Fair comment mate.
Not replying/ arguing in this thread anymore, as there is no point - I've said my piece, and I think I've explained the situation.
I misinterpreted your inverted commas as sarcasm, sorry.

I know that some of the MAX5 drivers were a little miffed at the test day being on Wednesday instead of Friday or Saturday. There were also comments about poor standards of driving consideration, perhaps as you say, the orgasnisers could have done a better job with the briefing etc.

My point about the drifting was merely in response to your complaints about the over aggressive driving, both are inappropriate on a trackday, no personal attack intended. 8)

If drifting was welcomed at trackdays, I'd be there every week. :D

Hi,
Yep was me, Steve and Bert in the white 318iS bought from JimBob a few weeks ago, and now sporting some H&R roll bars F&R, Oil cooler ... and exploding brake pads !
Closer investigation showed that the disk / caliper /pad combo was fine with plenty of pad left but once the pad got worn to 2mm the outside one could get past the caliper .... YIKES !! Brown trouser moment coming into Gerrards at a ton !

Fixed at track side with a borrowed second hand pad and started to drive home slowly when the otherr side went BANG too - not funny !...... ended up clamping the pipe and driving to Derby with 3 wheel braking !!

Measured up some disks on other cars there and there was about 3mm diff in thickness... i.e. the ones on ours were 3mm thinner...
Now bought some vented ones.... and some clean underwear !

Note to All - keep with the vented ones !!

Other than that a top day out.... all the E30 racers were really helpful and chatty ... some useful info on different types of disks and pads were offered :D

Agree about MX5 drivers though , they are obviously deaf as we weren't that much slower than them and yet they still dived down the inside at the bends before we could get to a straight to let them past on !
