Roof Brace

Hi all, so i recently removed the roof skin to fit a fibreglass replacement and had to remove the roof bow (brace between the b pillars)

Im struggling a bit to find a rot free replacement so guess ing there is no harm in simply welding in a couple of bits of mild steel to stop the skin flexing and provide some bracing?

What thickness should i use?
