Has anyone got any pictures of where they have mounted the harness mounts? Have the following mounts that I'm about to weld in and wouldn't mind seeing the best locations before I commit!

Ross, have a read of this fitting guide, you can see that depending on what harness you have governs the location of the anchors.

Have a good read all the way to end, you will then know exactly where to mount the eye bolts.

I would be looking at aiming for the angles shown on page 13.

It also depends on how far back you have your seat mounted.
Personally, I think the lap belt anchor locations you have selected are a little too far back Motorhole.

Have a look at page 60.

Thanks Andrew, I see what you mean - thankfully I'm over 6ft and have a floor-mounted pedal box too, forcing my driving position further back again. The lap belt comes through the slots at around about the 60+/-10 degree criteria. Fair point that this may not be the case for a shorter driver using a stock pedal box.
Definitely need to make sure that the passenger seat is fully slid back though!

Absolutely, every driver should have their own mounting location for the reasons you've mentioned
What works for me, doesnt always work for others, its not so easy to recommend this type of solution when there are so many un knowns.

Awesome, that's the sort of information I was after Andrew. I'll digest it all properly later. The harness bar takes car of the shoulder straps, but quick question, how come the straps should be crossed? Or is that for HANS use?
Thanks Motorhole, also useful

Thats only for Hans belts Ross. But I still cross the belts regardless, feels better and less chance of them slipping off the shoulder if the wearer doesn't tighten the belts properly.

I've just been looking on Demon Tweeks as I will have to decide on a harness soon and spotted the ones you are using. Do you know if it will meet blue book requirements if I bolt the lap belts in like you have done here?

Cheers

I honestly don't know Ross, can you email the organisers with the photo above?
The bolt is the correct size for seatbelt use 7/16" I think and it's going through a 5mm alloy bracket.
I had to get some spacers machined up and I think I used a 2.5" bolt, would have to double check though.

I had a read of the latest blue book online last night and sadly don't think so, would have been a far neater and lighter solution.

But I will give the scrutineer a ring at some point
2.1.4. Six Point. Two shoulder straps, one lap strap and two straps between the legs, with six anchorage points on the chassis/body shell or roll over bar of the vehicle, one either side of the driver, two to the rear of the driver’s seat and two between the legs.

I would still ask, I've seen some interesting installs that make it on to the track!
The bolt I'm using could do with being a tiny wee but longer so the threads are through the end of the nut, but it's perfectly safe as the bolt is in past it's width.
Glad you like the solution, it does save quite a bit of weight as the eye bolts, metal plates and the belt clip on anchors all add up!!!

Been drilling ready to fit the plates today and thought I would re-read the Schroth link Andrew provided to double check all the angles. I was going to weld the plates in until I noticed on p21 it states:
Now obviously in the event of a crash the only load placed on it would be a pulling load, so there isn't any need for it to be welded, and also welding is going to allow rust to form easier no matter how well I prep it afterwards so it makes sense to me to seam seal it in. Just thought I would see what others have done and your opinions on this?
So I consulted the blue book and all it states is that the plate has to be fixed.Ӣ Use seal compound and stick the reinforcement plate from underneath to the floor panel. The seal also helps to prevent water intrusion.

Mine are in the same place as Motorholes picture and the harnesses do not bunch up and are spot on. My spreader plates are held in place by the harness eye, and a rivet which stops the plate spinning when doing up/undoing. No need to weld.
