I'm contemplating fitting a cage to my touring and wondered if anyone had any advice.
I would like some horizontals behind the seats for belt mounts. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am not really sure on weld in or bolt in at the moment either!

I haven't fitted a cage yet but there was not really much of a difference in cost between the bolt in and welded - if you go with a custom cages weld in, well apart from the whole inside of the car needs redecorating after the installation! Looks better tho.

With all if them you can choose where you want bars.

I, rightly or wrongly, use my rear strut brace for my harness.

I have the Safety Devices 16 point jobbie:

http://www.safetydevices.com/motorsport ... /619/1435/

And it's a very well thought out cage. The rear mounting points on the turrets are far better than most cages you see which mount to the inner wheel arch and will provide a decent level of chassis stiffening. I haven't got the nerve to cut through my bulkhead yet, but the cage also has the option of front triangulation as well. Also has harness bars like you are after. Can't really fault it and Safety Devices have always been helpful when I have had queries

Thanks for the feedback chaps. The customs cages site has an error on the one I want to view so will call them tomorrow!
The safety devices looks good, just need to ask them if it will fit in a touring as the rear ends are a little different around the strut tops.

Anyone else any feedback?

I wish id bought a cage that followed the A pillar all the way down, would have been easy to add a dash bar and front triangulation if your making it yourself, but I bought mine without realising what it was exactly
Its an older Safety Devices bolt in.
If you still have the sunroof, get rid of it so you can lift the cage up higher/closer to the roof rails

I currently have a safety devices bolt in cage in my track car - it's ok but a bit compromised in that it bolts to the floor but not to the roof sections or offers any proper linkage between the from and rear suspension. I think cage development has come on leaps and bounds even for cars like ours in the last few years. A bolt in cage helps a lot but I think leaves you wanting more...

I am going to do another shell for my car with the full monty of weld in goodness - the gains I think will be significant and I hope it never, ever gets proven for the real thing.

Thats easily sorted Mike, I welded on extra fixings to mine, B pillars, A pillars and roof, so its still bolt in/removable

There is usually a decent wait for anything other than the easy fix bolt ins

I'm in no rush at all, will be at least winter before I do anything!
Dan - I'll be taking the sunroof out for sure! Deciding how far I go with the car will really determine what kind of cage goes in! I am really stuck at the moment between leaving it alone or doing a proper cage tied in all over the place and going all out on the car... Only time will tell!

My custom cages one is very good. I have the 6 point E30 specific one with rear cross section pics up on rear turrets. Door bars are nice and high with a cross. Harness bars on both driver and passenger side. I got some extra gussets and bits to go with mine. Requires the sunroof delete though. There's pics here http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... &start=125

If you ring them ask to speak to James :thumb:

Have a funny feeling you were from around Cambs area, or did I make that up? If so, Rollcentre in St Ives did my cage which has triangulation to front struts etc. Around £1700 all in... can't rate their customer service, communication or speed, but the quality of work seems excellent.
