Sound deadening removal, any advise please?

I am planning to remove the sound deadening and wondered if there is any advice on best methods?

Heat gun was mentioned on another thread but what is involved, heat it up and scrape it off, easy, messy, bawache??? Is it ok to do that where back seat was given the fuel tank and lines are in that area?

A mate told me it was a nightmare job and would be best to attack with a hammer and chisel!! I don't want to knock seven bells out of the bodywork!!

Any advice welcomed.

Hammer and chisel if you are an animal and dont mind denting the floor pan yeah...

Heat it up with hot air gun and 90% of the time it will pull off in one lump, like a sticker, some sticky bits just need a gentle scrape, if your having to press hard then its not hot enough

Totally agree with Dan, i did mine recently. Some gentle heat on it with a heat gun and it should scrape off in fairly big pieces. You'll be left with some brown residue, use some tar & glue remover or thinners on a rag and it will clean up.

Millions of advice about here, all the top tips pointed towards using a heat gun. Not expensive, and works awesome. White spirit gets rid of the rest.

i used a paint stripper and gentle taps with a hammer, i cold weather it just chips off in big lumps. didnt dent the metal work at all, but did put the odd scratch in the paint under it.

didnt have much luck with a heatgun, just seemed to melt the top and turn it into a black sticky mess which went everywhere

I did it when it was freezing in the garage and it came off in large chunks very easily

Yep get the heat gun on the go, then get your scraper blade between the metal and the proofing, keep pushing as it heats up. Job's a good 'un.

Thanks for that. As I live in a cold part of the world I might use give the hammer a go. Saying that weather forecast says its to warm up this weekend!! Think I'll also get a heat gun!! I'll let you know how I get on, thanks again.
