today i had my very first track session and bloooming loved it, i had a issue with my powersteering going up shit creek so ran without it and realized that i REALLY need a LSD now.

the day was a success and want to thank all of the Lydden marshals for a doing a wicked job.

just need to tweek the geometry and pop a LSD and more powersteering and then book another :D

Nice fix! What diff do you currently have - a standard 325i 3.64:1 open one?

Streuth, that must be incredibly low geared for a big V8! I have a 2-litre Fiat twin cam that makes short work of a 3.909:1 diff, revving a bit too high on the motorway for comfort.

You'll find most cars will only use 3rd and 4th on track. There aren't often corners slow enough to need 2nd or straights long enough to use 5th; unless you work out the ratios and change them of course :)

Where you booking the next day?

Well put it this way the little clio boys thought they were great as they were over taking me coming out of corners when I was lighting up 1 wheel. Little shits won't know what hit them when I get a LSD..... Or just weld the bugger.

Have you welded your diff Phil? I don't think my welder has enough amps to weld it properly?
Let's me know on the LSD though fella 8)

Had the same issue at Brands the other week, car suffered with massive fuel surge so was super slow in the corners until the straightaway!

Yep, I swear by welded diffs, its not the best thing for track but works for me drifting, itll step out on track as you would expect but I do have to push it hard or be a prick in order for it to do so

Cheap and pikey method but whats not to love about that

Ill have a chat about the lsd

Well I got over the fuel surge problem by fitting a swirl pot in the boot and a uprated fuel pump, walla jobs a gooden.
Do you get any vibration from the welded diff Phil?
To be honest it would be a hell of alot better than a piece of shit open diff?

Yep swirl pot is on the list for mine.

No vibration from a welder, of course it scrubs when parking but anything above 10mph you wouldnt know. And it puts more wear on shafts.

I prefer a welded diff to lsd, problem I have found is that a standard diff doesnt lock up enough for me, so you spend double rebuilding and reshimming.

I know 2 ways are very good but the ones I have seen and used are so tight that they pretty much act like a welded diff anyway! I understand a welded diff is inferior but having had one on 4 different cars now including daily drives they win hands down

look for an lsd - i found a shagged one and sent it to gareth. £300 rebuild and uprated to 40% lock, and £150 for the diff itself
