anyone using a non standard big battery in your e30?
any options/costs?

my car has the normal big battery and boot mounted.

want to go smaller but not sth that won't crank the 6 cylinder.
thanks. DC

To get the smallest battery possible ive had to also invest in a Brise starter http://www.brise.co.uk/BMW_starter_motors.html

When commuting in the car to track i use the stock battery, once on the track I fit the little one. Eventually i would like to fit the racing one behind the passenger seat (when that gets fitted) and keep the cable going to the back so i can simply remove the OE once at track and not mess about fitting or connecting the racing one.

These are also not bad value, but they are not as light.

Got an Odyssey Extreme 30 in mine, 9kg and never had any issues with starting etc... It's located behind where the passenger seat would normally be. Best to keep it between the two axles if you can.

I bought a second hand red top race battery off Pistonheads for £50 and it weighs a little over 5.5kgs, compared to the 16kgs of the OE item. It cranks the OE starter with no problem and only mod I made was changing battery terminals.

My Odyssey 25 battery was £50 2nd hand. Check out the rally design ones. They're made by DMS technologies, just branded differently and cheaper!
